First, let’s be real. There’s always this unspoken pressure to have extravagant plans for spring break. But if you’re not doing anything, don’t sweat it. Taking a break doesn’t have to mean boarding a plane or going to the beach. Sometimes, the best kind of reset is a slow, intentional pause. So without further ado, here are 10 ways to make the most of your spring break without going anywhere!

1. Organize Your Space

Nothing says “reset” like decluttering. You can tidy up your room, closet, or even your digital life (hello, 1,000 unread emails). A clean space equals a clear mind, and you’ll feel so much better walking into a refreshed environment when classes pick back up.

2. Journal and Reflect

Midway through the semester is the perfect time to check in with yourself. Grab a journal and reflect on how things are going in your life. What are you proud of? What’s been challenging? What would you like to improve on? Writing it down helps you process your thoughts and set some goals for the rest of the semester!

3. Bake Something Delicious

For those of you who live in a dorm, take full advantage of being home and having access to a kitchen! Try out a new recipe, bake some cookies, or make your favorite childhood dessert. Baking is not only rewarding but also a great stress reliever—plus, who doesn’t love a sweet treat!?

4. Get Ahead on Schoolwork

I know, I know—this doesn’t sound fun, but hear me out. Dedicating even just a couple of hours to catching up or getting ahead on assignments will make your life so much easier later. Your future self will be so grateful.

5. Limit Your Screen Time

It’s tempting to spend all of your break scrolling on your phone when you “think” you have nothing to do, but try to challenge yourself! Put your phone down, be present, and enjoy the little moments. You’ll feel so much better when you’re not glued to a screen the entire time. Tip: Set a screen time limit on your phone to hold yourself accountable!

6. Try Something New

The stress of college makes it pretty hard to try new things, so if there’s something you’ve been wanting to try but haven’t had time for it, now is your chance! Whether it’s painting, knitting, playing an instrument, or exploring new foods, use this time to do something purely for fun.

7. Reconnect with Hometown Friends

If you’re home for break, reach out to your old friends! You probably miss them more than you realize. Grab some coffee, have a movie night, or just catch up—it’ll feel good to spend time with people who you haven’t seen in a while.

8. Move Your Body

Calling all my bed rot lovers (don’t worry, I’m one of you). Working out doesn’t have to be a chore. Whether it’s a yoga session, a fun dance workout, a simple walk, or hitting the gym, moving your body will boost your mood and energy. Find something you enjoy doing, that way it won’t feel like a task and you’ll be motivated to move!

9. Read a Book (For Fun!)

When was the last time you read something that wasn’t for a class? Pick up that book you’ve been dying to read but just haven’t had time for, or try out a new genre. Getting lost in a good book is one of the best ways to escape without actually going anywhere.

10. Start (or Rewatch) a New Show

We all know the struggle of trying to commit to a new show, but spring break is the perfect time to dive in. Or, if that feels like too much, go ahead and rewatch your favorite comfort show for the hundredth time—no judgment here!

Bonus: Treat Yourself!!

You deserve a little self-care. Go shopping, take yourself out on a solo dinner date, or just do something that makes you feel good. Spring break is about you, so do whatever makes you happy!

At the end of the day, spring break isn’t about where you go, it’s about how you spend your time. So whether you’re traveling or staying home, make sure you’re doing what feels right for you. Enjoy yourself!

I’m a Sophomore at the University of Michigan. I’m excited to explore different courses and determine what fields really catch my interest. Right now, I’m open to many possibilities and looking forward to the chance to learn and grow academically, while also meeting new people and making connections that will shape my path in college and beyond.

Outside of class, I’m passionate about staying active and finding time to enjoy life beyond the books. Exercise is a big part of my routine, and I like trying out new workouts and sports whenever I can. I’m also a huge fan of travel and love exploring new places and cultures; there’s something about stepping into a new environment that makes everything feel fresh and exciting. Even if it’s just a hidden spot around town or a new city, I’m always up for an adventure.

When I’m not studying or exploring, I usually unwind by watching YouTube, scrolling through social media, or finding new restaurants to try. I’m a bit of a foodie, so I enjoy seeking out different cuisines and hidden gems with friends. As I navigate my first year here, I’m looking forward to seeing where these experiences take me and learning more about myself along the way.
