As January winds down, it’s pretty common for our New Year’s resolutions to suffer the same fate. Now that the excitement of the New Year is behind us, it can be really hard to stay motivated to follow through on our resolutions. It’s something I’ve struggled with a lot in the past, but trying out these tips has really helped me to stay consistent. Give them a try if you feel like you’re losing motivation to keep working towards your 2025 goals!
Make a Specific Plan
It’s one thing to have a goal, but the best way to make it happen is to outline exactly what you’re going to do to achieve it. Figure out the when, where, and how, and be as specific as possible. If your resolution involves doing something every day, decide exactly when and where you’re going to do it. Having a structured, predetermined part of your day to work on your resolution makes it much easier to stay disciplined.
Get an Accountability Partner
If you’re working towards your resolution on your own, it can be easy to lose motivation after the first few weeks. Having another person to keep you on track makes a huge difference! My accountability partner and I text each other every day to make sure we’re staying consistent. Whether they’re working towards the same goal as you or just offering some support and accountability, bringing in a friend is a great way to keep yourself going in the right direction.
Check in Along the Way
A year is a long time to stick to a resolution, so it’s helpful to have some checkpoints along the way. Pick several days throughout the year to check in on your goal and how it’s going. Is the plan you initially made working? Are you making the progress you were hoping to? If not, this is a great time to make adjustments to your goal or plan. Your life and schedule can change a lot over a year so there’s nothing wrong with tweaking your goal. It’s a lot better than abandoning it altogether!
Treat Yourself!
A great way to help you follow through on your resolution is to give yourself a little incentive. Schedule something fun or exciting to look forward to as you work towards your goal! You can give yourself one big reward at the end of the year or smaller ones throughout to celebrate your consistency. This will help you stay motivated and make working towards your goal a more positive experience.
