Activities to Get You in the Fall Spirit 🍁

The first day of fall has finally arrived and cooler weather is being forecasted. Bearcats are anxiously awaiting cozy sweater weather and hot coffee to enjoy on Main Street, but what are some fun fall activities to do after a long day of classes? Her Campus asked UC students for four of their favorite things to do when the fall air hits.

  1. Watch Fall or Horror Movies

One of the best things to do after a long day of trekking across campus is to get cozy in the living room with a fuzzy blanket and enjoy a movie marathon. Claire Rempe, a second-year Journalism and Public Relations student, shared that watching movies gives her a warm feeling during the holidays. “Whenever September ends, I always crave a HalloweenTown rewatch! It fills me with nostalgia and reminds me of when I was a kid watching The Disney Channel with my family back home in Kentucky.” Her Campus also recommends fall classics such as Little Women, Good Will Hunting, and the Halloween franchise!

  1. Enjoy Seasonal Drinks

As early as August 1st, coffee shops across America start releasing their seasonal flavors, and it has to be one of my favorite events of the year. Whether you are just craving Starbucks or a local coffee shop around campus, we’ve got you covered. If you’re at Starbucks, we recommend a Venti Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai (the pumpkin cold foam is a MUST.) If you’re near CCM, try out The 86’s signature mocha latte or their famous 86 cider! Make sure you try out these drinks quickly, the autumn season will be over before the leaves finish falling!

  1. Listen to Melancholy Albums to Match the Ambience Outside

I have been described as a chronic listener of sad music, so fall is when my playlists truly shine. However, I am not the only person who indulges in nostalgic melodramatic albums during the changing of the seasons as it is quite common, especially for Taylor Swift fans. We talked to Ally Austerman, a second-year Health Sciences major, about her favorite albums to listen to after September 22nd. She told Her Campus, “I am a big fan of Taylor Swift’s sister albums Folklore and Evermore, especially when I feel a crisp autumn breeze. The albums accompany my walks around campus quite well with their nostalgic lyricism and quiet instrumentals.” If Taylor Swift isn’t your jam, we also recommend Phoebe Bridger’s Stranger in the Alps album, Radiohead’s The Bends, and Bon Iver’s For Emma, Forever Ago.

  1. Watch Comfort Shows

Last but certainly not least, rewatching comfort shows while the temperature drops is a fall requirement. Whether it is a show that reminds you of fall or just simply starting school again, sipping on a hot coffee after hours of homework watching your favorite show is an instant serotonin booster. I got the chance to ask McKenna Heider, a first-year Psychology major, what her favorite shows to binge were during the season and she was quick to respond with “Gilmore Girls! It helps me get excited for the school year and appreciate the fall weather. Also because Rory is so academically motivated and focused it helps me prioritize that as well as the semester continues.” If Stars Hollow isn’t the hometown you want to spend time in this fall, we also recommend Over the Garden Wall, American Horror Story, or Gossip Girl.
