Buckle up for another mystical mother-daughter switch because Disney dropped the official Freakier Friday trailer on March 14! The trailer comes about two years after Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, who played Anna and Tess Coleman, respectively, in Freaky Friday, first teased the sequel in 2023 while celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 2003 film.
At the time, they spoke to the New York Times about the anniversary, the sequel, their friendship, and more. “We met in an office, did the read-through, and it was game on in a big way. I had to let go of every control mechanism and just let it fly. Lindsay was as fluid as I was,” Curtis said. “If you look at The Parent Trap, she has a facility as an actor that is really impressive. It was a big job. It was a big production. And our relationship was very easy.”
Freaky Friday 2 is expected to hit theaters on Aug. 8, and from the looks of the trailer, a couple of our faves, besides Lohan and Curtis, will be reprising their roles. The movie’s cast includes Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chaos. New cast members include Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever) and Sophia Hammons (Under Wraps).
What is freakier friday about?
As far as the plot goes, Freakier Friday “picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”
Freakier friday announced it was in production in June 2024.
After years of speculation, Disney confirmed Freakier Friday was in production in June 2024 with a video of Lohan and Curtis on set.
The movie wrapped production in two months later in August, and Lohan celebrated this on IG. “It’s our last Monday on the set of #freakierfriday and my heart is so full,” Lohan wrote in a post shared on Aug. 19. “The wonderful cast, crew and everyone from @disneystudios have invested so much time and love into making this movie! It has been a pleasure to work with my dear friend @jamieleecurtis who brings so much joy to our set every day and she has made this all the more special.”
Freakier Friday hits theaters on Aug. 8.
