Katie’s Favorite Activities for Warm Weather on Campus!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

After a long and dreary winter season, I always feel a weight lifted off my shoulders as the weather begins to warm up. At Conn, specifically, once the weather hits 60º and the trees start to bloom, there is a different energy on campus. Here are some of my favorite things to do one campus during the springtime:

  1. Sit on the patio of Blamel

Blamel is one of the various coffee shops on campus and is located in our library. Though it may feel like summer, we are often prepping for finals season and have tons of work to do during the spring semester. Sitting outside on the patio of Blamel makes me feel more energetic, able to finish my work, and able to enjoy the fresh air! This way, I can still be studious, but do not have to be crammed inside the library doing homework.

  1. Go on walks outside and through the Arboretum

Walking is a great activity to do when you’re bored or want to enjoy the outdoors. Walking outside is one of the things I look forward to the most during the springtime, as it allows me to get some exercise, improve my mental health (especially after wintertime), and receive some vitamin D and fresh air!

  1. Have charcuterie picnics on Temple Green

During the springtime, there are flocks of friends who sit outside on Temple Green. Some play frisbee or spikeball, and some sit and read a book. Me and my friends love to make small charcuterie boards and eat them while enjoying the sunshine. Along with spring and summer comes berry season! Blueberries, strawberries, and especially raspberries add a nice touch to a charcuterie board.

  1. Try new drinks

During the wintertime, I stick to hot chai or hot chocolate. Though these are both tasty options, I love when the coffee shops on campus bring out their springtime teas. A personal favorite of mine is the Guava Lemonade from Coffee Grounds! It tastes like summer in a cup: a classic drink to have while sitting by the pool or on the beach.

  1. Wear new outfits

As the temperature starts to rise, it is time to introduce spring fashion, which includes some of my favorite trends and pieces of clothing. I personally love to wear midi skirts or overalls during the spring time because they can still keep you warm, but introduce a flowy, carefree look. Also, this is the time where I can wear some of my favorite colors: light blue, pink, and purple. Spring style is very soft, but is also so versatile.

Connecticut College is known for its beautiful campus, and I can attest to the fact that during the springtime, the blooming trees make campus look magical. As spring approaches, I wanted to share some of my favorite activities to do alone or with your friends to enjoy the sunshine!
