Mentally preparing yourself for exams — the fun way!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waterloo chapter.

Hey, you academic weapon! Are you feeling the stress of final exams? Do you find yourself procrastinating and feeling anxious about upcoming tests? Well, it happens to everyone. Here’s some advice on mentally preparing for final exams.

Firstly, take a break from studying! I know this sounds counterproductive, but trust me on this one. Binge-watch your favourite TV show, take a nap, or spend time with friends. It’s important to give your brain a break from all the information overload, and let it recharge.

Don’t forget to indulge in some comfort food. Stress eating is a thing, and it’s totally okay to treat yourself to your favourite snack or meal. Just be mindful of how much you’re consuming and try not to overdo it. A happy tummy makes for a happy student!

Call yourself an academic weapon. It helps you really get into the mental mindset that you’ll win against school. It’ll be 1-0, and you’ll be undefeated. Plus, it’s a pretty funny term.

Make sure you get some exercise. I’m not talking about hitting the gym and lifting weights (unless that’s your thing), but rather going for a walk or doing some yoga. Exercise is a great way to relieve stress and clear your mind. Plus, it’s good for your health!

Now, let’s talk about visualisation. Close your eyes and picture yourself acing the exam. Imagine the sense of relief and pride you’ll feel when you see that A+ on your report card. Visualisation can be a powerful tool in helping you stay motivated and confident.

Last but not least, don’t forget to laugh! Laughter is the best medicine, after all. Watch a funny video or listen to a comedy podcast. Laughing can help reduce stress and improve your mood.

Mentally preparing for final exams doesn’t have to be a scary task. Take breaks, eat some comfort food, exercise, visualise success, and laugh! Remember, you got this!
