The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis – Is it really #1?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Indy chapter.

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis was recently voted the best Children’s Museum in the US. The criteria was based on the most inspiration, value, and overall fun for families

The Children’s Museum also regularly brings in new exhibits, such as the Scooby Doo: Mansion Mayhem and Minecraft exhibit. There are 5 floors to the museum filled with a number of unique exhibits, along with an 7.5 acre outdoor section called the Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience. The Dinosphere is one iconic exhibit that has evolved in recent years at the museum; it is an incredibly interesting and fun exhibit that a person of any age could enjoy!

Admission to museums can end up being very costly for families; this is why the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis offers a few deals on admission. They offer the Access Pass program, which is available to families that are enrolled in programs such as HIP, SNAP, and TANF. Eligible families can receive $2 admission to not only the Children’s Museum, but multiple other museums around Indianapolis (such as Newfields and the Indiana State Museum). The Children’s Museum also offers a huge discount on the first Thursday of each month: from 4 pm–8 pm, admission is only $6. Additionally, ticket cost is lower at less busy times, such as during the week.

Overall, I do believe that the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is worthy of its number one position among children’s museums in the country; despite its higher ticket prices during busy days, it can definitely be worth it if you can afford it. The Children’s Museum offers fun for anyone of any age; I enjoy going at least twice a year with my friends or family. If UIndy students can take advantage of the Access Pass program or attend a First Thursday at the museum, it is well worth the time and money!
