Controversial Disney Princess Movie Ranking

If you are anything like me, you grew up watching the Disney princess movies. You dreamt of being a princess, having a pet companion, and being the hero of your own story. This may be controversial but I have rated the Disney princess movies that we all grew up with! Hold on tight, and remember, these are solely my opinions!

For this list, I compiled thirteen Disney Princess movies. These are based on the original, animated films. I am not including live action or redone versions of the classics. Now, for the much-anticipated list:

  1. Mulan
  2. Tangled
  3. Beauty and the Beast
  4. Aladdin
  5. Frozen
  6. Moana
  7. The Little Mermaid
  8. Princess and the Frog
  9. Sleeping Beauty
  10. Brave
  11. Pocahontas
  12. Cinderella
  13. Snow White

Now you may be wondering why I listed them as such and I have prepared an explanation. Mulan will always take the number one spot on my list. Mulan is the story of an empowering female defying all gender roles, maintaining the family honor, and fighting for what she believed in. She inspired me as a little girl to take matters into my own hands and fight for what I believed in, even if all of the odds were against me. To add on, the playlist is a no skip soundtrack. In a close second is Tangled. Tangled has one of the best soundtracks of all Disney movies. To add on, there is so much humor in this movie and the characters are all so fun. Rapunzel is a girlboss and carried this Disney movie to the number two spot.

Third on my list is Beauty and the Beast. This has another one of my favorite soundtracks of all Disney movies. The characters are unique and iconic. No one can tell me they didn’t love Chip and the other miscellaneous characters. In fourth is Aladdin. Some may argue that this isn’t a Disney princess movie, however, I will argue that Jasmine is in fact a princess and therefore it qualifies. The tiger, Rajah, is an iconic companion as well as Abu. The songs are again absolutely amazing and the characters are hilarious. Jasmine also proves that she can stand up for herself and she does not believe men should be doing her bidding for her. Iconic.

In fifth, we have Frozen. This movie is a masterpiece whether you liked it or not. “Let It Go” was running through our heads on replay for years after the movie’s release. Elsa and Anna exemplify independent women who can accomplish anything they set their hearts out for. The soundtrack is another masterpiece and Olaf is a household name at this point. In sixth place is Moana. Moana is the only Disney princess movie in which there is not a love interest. Moana sets out to do everything to save the ocean and her town. In seventh, we have The Little Mermaid. This movie is lower on the list because I find it pretty sad that she believes she has to lose her voice to get a guy to like her. She leaves her family and her friends for a guy who she met on the beach once. She then gives up her voice for a pair of legs to try to get him to fall in love with her. It has a good soundtrack and good characters but the premise is not inspiring and is not a good image for little girls.

In eighth is The Princess and the Frog. While this is a very well done movie, I have never been able to get into it. I love the representation within the movie and the characters, however, it is just not a personal favorite of mine. I love the message it sends though! In ninth place is Sleeping Beauty. I rate this one in ninth because I love the fairies and it has a nostalgic feel to it. However, this one wasn’t one that really resonated with me. It is a classic but it doesn’t rank high for me.

In tenth place, we have Brave. Again, I love the representation and the characters but the movie was hard to stay hooked on. I enjoy the message but at this moment, I could not even tell you a single song in that movie. In eleventh place is Pocahontas. I enjoy some of the songs in this movie and some of the characters. It was good but it did not stand out to me. I liked the representation and the story but it isn’t one of my favorites.

In twelfth place is Cinderella. This one has a few good songs and is very nostalgic. However, I have some issues with the plot of this movie. I find it completely unrealistic that the prince would not recognize the face of Cinderella and instead went to every house thinking that any of the women could be the same. He didn’t even take into consideration hair color. Like what??? Was she really that special if he couldn’t even remember or recognize her face or what she looked like?

And finally, in thirteenth place I have put Snow White. While it is nostalgic and has one or two good songs, I did not like the message of this movie. Yes, it is a classic but at what cost. Snow White has to clean the whole house and do all of the chores for these seven dwarves. She then gets poisoned by an evil witch and the only way to wake up is being kissed by a man. I understand the notion behind a true love’s kiss but the whole movie just sits wrong with me.

Overall, these are just my personal opinions but I hope you had as much fun reading this as I had writing it! What are your favorite Disney princess movies?
