Pace University’s Newest Fashion Publication: An Interview with ‘Fusion’ Magazine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pace chapter.

Have you heard of Fusion Magazine? Well, I have, and I need to tell you about it. Over this past weekend, I had the pleasure of interviewing with Savianah Persaud, a fellow Pace University student, to get the inside scoop on Fusion. Savianah is currently a junior at Pace University with a major in business management and a minor in fashion marketing. During the meeting, I could totally feel the excitement and passion that Savianah has for both the magazine and fashion as well.

Her Campus: What is Fusion Magazine? How did the magazine start?

Savianah Persaud: Fusion magazine is a fashion-based magazine that highlights events and different crafts from the Pace community and different designers and brands. Fusion started because of Allison’s vision of creating a magazine that anyone at Pace can help create and build on their resume. Pace doesn’t have a fashion major, only a fashion marketing minor. Allison and every member of the e-board want to include a fashion organization that can help anyone build and show off their craft.

HC: Who is Alisson? Is she a member of the club?

SP: Alisson Martinez is on the e-board of Fusion, she’s our president. The e-board also consists of Felicity Doran-Cressman as the treasurer, Carmen Ridley as the Secretary, and me as the Vice President.

HC:  When do you meet? Who can join fusion?

SP: Anyone can join Fusion magazine! We’re looking for models, writers, editors, artists, photographers, DJs; anyone who’s into fashion and wants to have fun and help build this magazine! We also meet in person every Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in W620 at One Pace Plaza.

HC: Can we expect to see any events from Fusion soon? If not, what type of events do you plan to host?

SP: We have some amazing events coming up this semester, including: Create Your Own Tote Bag, Fusion Thrifted Runway, Mugler Exhibit Event, a launch party, and more!

HC: That’s amazing. I’ll definitely need to check those out! What are your goals for this magazine, for now and the future?

SP: Our goal at Fusion is to create a comfortable and creative space where the Pace community can come together to build a new edition of the Fusion magazine every semester.

HC: I love that! What are three words you would use to describe the magazine?

SP: Creative, fashionable, and innovative.

HC: Lastly, just for fun, who is your fashion inspiration? Also, if you could model for any high-fashion brand during New York Fashion Week, who would it be and why?

SP: Vivienne Westwood and Thierry Mugler are huge inspirations for me; I would love to walk for Mugler, I dream of walking for them.

After this interview, I can tell that Fusion Magazine will be a huge success. If you have an interest or passion for fashion, you need to check out this club. Fusion’s e-board is filled with some of the kindest and most creative people on Pace’s NYC campus. It was an absolute pleasure meeting with Savianah, and I can’t wait to attend their meetings. You can also find them on Instagram, @fusion.mag, to stay updated on all events and meetings!

Outside of Her Campus, PK is a senior at Pace University (NYC) and is majoring in Communications and Media Studies with a double minor in Digital Marketing and Arts and Entertainment Management. Recently, PK has been delving into multiple social media and design platforms to further their knowledge about digital marketing. During this school year, and beyond graduation, they hope to continue to learn more about photoshop and video editing software. Beyond school, PK enjoys listening and discovering new music, enjoying a cup of coffee and a sweet treat, having hour-long conversations about Star Wars and/or Marvel. If not doing any of the items listed above, PK is most definitely “rotting” in bed and gaining more knowledge about astrology and rewatching their favorite movie/TV shows again.
