9 days till everyones least favorite holiday comes rolling in. A day for all “singles” to mourn in their loneliness while yearning for storybook love. While the people who are “taken” are anxiously waiting to be asked “Will you be my valentine?” and then either getting a “Why do I need to ask you to be my valentine if we are dating?” text or, “I didn’t think we were that serious to do Valentine’s Day together”. Let’s all just agree that this holiday SUCKS! Either way, anyone struggling with being a hopeless romance, here are some ideas to turn your Valentine’s Day around!

Once I discovered Galentine’s Day, I had the realization that a valentine can be given to anyone in your life. Let’s change the idea of valentines day for just people in relationships but a day to show everyone in our life love, even just platonic love. Here are four ideas to spice up Galentine’s Day and to reassure you that everyone deserves love on February 14th.

One of my favorite ideas to show your gals and best friends the amount of love you have for them is to tell them! Writing out little notes or even funny love poems to your friends is a great way of showing full hearted love in a playful way. Make up funny love poems with your friends, give them out to each other and read them outload to make each other laugh. Laughter is our biggest gift in life and making someone smile is one of the best ways to show the people in your life how much you love them.

Another idea would be to bake with your friends. Making cookies for your friends or making heart shaped pizzas together is a great way to spend time together. One of my favorite memories with my girlfriends is baking cookies late at night then binging and watching a ridiculous movie. For this valentine’s day start the night by making your favorite sweet, make cookie pizzas in a heart shape. Make buttercream frosted cookies in different shades of pink with funny messages, similar to conversation hearts candies.

Then turn on your favorite corny romantic comedy movie while you snack on your sweets with your friends. Some of my favorite romantic movies that won’t make you feel like the most single person in the world. Although these movies are romance about the love between best friends. My favorite movies to watch to cheer you up on valentines day would be I Love You Man, Bridesmaids, and Clueless. Try one of these movies to binge on your galentines date.

Love is not just for people in romantic relationships. To feel loved and be loved is the ultimate goal in all our lives but this should not depend solely on having significant others. Your friends and family can be the best people to show true genuine love. Ultimately the one person who can show you storybook fancy love is yourself. You have the power to give yourself the most amount of love that no significant other will ever be able to do. Make sure to show these people and yourself all the love on February 14th because everyone deserves to be someone’s valentine.

Since I was a little girl I've loved to write and a big part of my childhood was helping others. One of my hopes is to be a published writer that advocates for mental health and writes to help people persevere through adversity. I'm a big believer in self-help books and how writing can change one's perspective on the world around them. I want to be a source of inspiration and advocate for female students. I want my writing to bring females a sense of community and to show that they aren't alone.
