My Must-Have Perfumes

Katie Squires Student Contributor, St. Bonaventure University
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

During our meeting this past Monday, our Her Campus chapter got the surprise of receiving YSL Black Opium samples. I was beyond excited to try a new scent, as I look to expand my fragrance collection. In my middle and high school days, I would jump at the cheapest body mists in the dollar section. These clearly sufficed, however, I would have to re-apply several times a day. I felt I would need to keep a bottle in my gym bag, school bag, and car in order to make the scent last. As I got my own job, I decided I wanted to invest in fragrances that would make me feel confident all day long. In my opinion, nothing compares to smelling fresh all day. Below I have listed my favorite perfumes for anyone looking to expand their fragrance collection.

ysl black opium

Obviously, I am biased here, as I received samples through my Her Campus chapter. As soon as I applied just one spray to my wrists, I was immediately drawn to the luxurious scent. The company describes the scent as “The perfect expression of femininity and grace.” Notes of pear, patchouli, and orange blend seamlessly in this classic scent. I think this perfume is perfect for a night out with friends or a date night.

cloud by Ariana grande

Capturing my attention from the second I smelled a sample in an Ulta catalog, this was the first perfume I ever bought for myself. Cloud has continued to be my signature scent on a daily basis. It has a sweet scent without being overbearing. Notes of fruit, coconut, and vanilla make up this iconic scent. Fun fact: this is one of Alex Earle’s favorite perfumes, which she linked in her Amazon storefront.

bright crystal by Versace

If you’re looking for a timeless feminine scent, look no further than Bright Crystal by Versace. This is a perfume that my mom introduced to me, and I have loved it ever since. Perfect for spring or summer, this scent is airy with both floral and fruity elements. I receive compliments every time I wear Bright Crystal. I will say, it is definitely more “mature” than the other scents on this list. It smells sophisticated and classy.

Prada candy

Prada Candy is described as a “musk perfume with caramel.” It is warm and fluffy with only a touch of sweetness. In my opinion, this is perfect for everyday wear, especially in autumn or winter. This is a great addition to any fragrance collection, considering how versatile it is. This perfume is perfect for pairing with vanilla body lotions and oils.
