Valentine’s Day Plans for When you Don’t Have a Date

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSD chapter.

It’s officially the time of year that chronically single people dread the most – Valentines Day. Whether you are newly single, in a long distance relationship, or just want to spend some time with the girls, this list of V-day activities will make you glad that you don’t have a date.

Baking night

Call over your girlfriends, bust out the oven mitts and get baking. Some of my favorite college memories have been baking with my friends in our run-down, outdated apartment kitchen. Pour yourselves a glass of sparkling apple cider and play some music while you bake (bonus points if you listen to Taylor Swift).

Picnic on the Beach

Let’s be real, one of the best parts about going to UCSD is living across the street from the beach. Grab a group of friends and find treats from the market to set up a picnic at Blacks. Sushi from either the Bistro or the Market is a must. If you feel like documenting the occasion, your setup will be photo ready for some instagrammable moments.

Taylor Swift Listening Party

Whether you’re in love, going through a heartbreak, crushing on someone, or even happily single, there is a Taylor Swift song that you’ll relate to. Here are some of my recommendations:

In love: This Love, You are in Love, Call it what you want, Lover, Mine

Heartbroken: Last kiss, Back to December, All too Well (10 minute version), My Tears Ricochet, We are Never Ever Getting Back Together

Crushing: Enchanted, Fearless, I Think He Knows, Treacherous, You Belong With Me, Message in a Bottle, Gorgeous

Single: Karma, ME!, New Romantics, 22, Shake it off, This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things, A Place In This World, Lavender Haze

I would highly recommend trying to find a cat to pet while listening.

Spa Day

Light some candles (not if you live on campus tho) and have a spa day with your friends! You can paint each other’s nails, do face and hair masks, make some mocktails, and pamper yourselves.

Shopping Trip!

There’s no pick me up like a trip to the mall. There’s a reason they call it retail therapy! Head over to UTC or your favorite mall with some friends, eat food court (or dine in) meals, and have a fitting room fashion show with your besties.

Slumber Party

Relive your middle school days and host a slumber party with your friends! You can pull out some old Seventeen Magazines, gossip about the latest celeb drama, play truth or dare, and have a girl’s night in! Obviously a teenage coming-of-age movie is a must. Some of my favorites include: Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Easy A.

Go for a Hike

La Jolla is surrounded by some beautiful hiking trails. Put on some tennis shoes, get your body moving, and enjoy the sunshine and the outdoors with your friends.

Cry Session

If you and your friends have recently been dumped or are heartbroken, nothing will feel as freeing as a good cry session. Rant about your Ex’s, scream into a pillow, and cry until you have no tears left. Put on some sad songs if your tears need some assistance. However after crying, let that man go and live up your single life!

My name is Yazmin and I'm currently a first year at UCSD. I love hiking, baking, going to the gym, and all things Christmas.
