The HP Poet Corner: Poem Four from Derealizacja

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

Welcome back to my poetry corner, where you have read some of the most profound emotions of one of the most challenging times in my life. I put alot of dedication into pouring out what I went through in writing these pieces, which has healed me in ways that I am very proud of. This is the last poem in my project called Derealizacja. If you didn’t already, look up what Derealizacja meant; it is a polish word that means derealization. It is a sensation of being outside your body and looking in on or feeling that what is happening to you is not real. I took a part of what derealization was and made it my own: looking at myself out of my skin, evaluating everything that happened to me and decoding all the emotions I went through to create art, making it a reality.

With that being said, I wanted to end this project with an emotion that I am still decoding. Love is tricky in my books. It comes and goes like the wind. At least, that’s what it has been like for me. So I wanted to start explaining that concept and process it for me in a cutesy way instead of gutting it like a fish first try. I hope you enjoy this last poem, and I look forward to sharing more poems with you soon.

Story of Love

Lit matches

Fall into a cave.

One after another and

The fire builds up.

I’m down here as well,

a flame.

That’s too rusty to spit up again.

I smolder as I get older,

But the matches still come.

The heartache,

The conversations,

extinguishing,

lighting,

Again and again.

What’s the point,

I should just fizzle out.

Ouch!

I crackle and get dimmer.

A match appeared beside me,

And glowed its ruby red flames,

In my dying tired eyes.

Disguise I say and into soot I go away.
