Dry skin is an inevitable outcome of the harsh winter, but just because it’s winter doesn’t mean your skin has to suffer. Throughout the years, I’ve discovered that my skin suffers tremendously during the winter season. From dry patches to overall dead-looking skin, my skin and winter just don’t mesh well together. After searching forever for ways to rejuvenate my skin, I finally found a solution. The way to have glowy skin all year round is simply through hydration. I learned that most of the issues that affected my skin, such as dry patches and oily skin, could be fixed with a well-formulated skincare routine with an emphasis on moisture. Through trial and error, I found the best winter skincare holy grails to combat dryness as well as a solid skincare routine to follow.

Winter Skincare Routine

When it comes to my skincare routines, I always place focus on hydration. While the products I use might change slightly, my winter skincare routine is no different from my summer one. During the day, I use toner, essence, serum, moisturizer, and finally sunscreen; during the night, I use toner, essence, serum, moisturizer, and an overnight mask. Usually, depending on what day of the week it is, I also use a chemical exfoliator. For me, this routine is perfect and allows room for my skin to recover in between exfoliating sessions while I’m still emphasizing hydration. I find that my skin responds well to this routine; it virtually eliminates any sign of dry patches.

My Winter Skincare Essentials

As a skincare junkie, I always find myself trying out new products and looking for the best new thing, but there are some products that I always find myself rebuying, and I consider them to be a part of my essentials because they’re simply that good. The number one product that I will forever repurchase is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner. The toner is milky and light yet hydrating; plus, it lays nicely under other products without flaking off.  It’s everything that I ever wanted in a toner. Second, on my list of holy grail products is the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. This product leaves my skin glowing and hydrated without making my skin feel sticky or weird. This essence is now something that my skin can’t live without. I genuinely believe that my skin wouldn’t be able to survive the winter without it. Last but not least is the INKEY List Hyaluronic Acid Serum; throughout the years, I’ve tried a lot of different hyaluronic acid serums, but none truly stuck out as much as the INKEY List one has. I love this serum to the point that I repurchase it before I finish my bottle because I simply cannot go a day without it.

Winter shouldn’t be synonymous with dry skin but with the right steps and tools, winter dryness can be defeated. While trying out new skincare products can be exciting it’s important to do research before purchasing any of these products. For example, did you know that if you have a shellfish allergy your skin might react to the Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence?
