Six Romance Books to Read This Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUM chapter.
  1. Always, in December, by Emily Stone

Always, in December is a touching story about Josie, a woman who lost her parents but writes a letter to them every year on Christmas. When Josie is taking her letter to the post office, she runs over Max on her bike. Josie and Max spend the night together only for him to disappear the next morning. Over the next year, the two continue to run into each other, but will it ever be the right moment? Always, in December is full of emotion and will definitely make you tear up. Josie and Max are the epitome of right person, wrong time.

  1. Window Shopping, by Tessa Bailey

Window Shopping is the romantic comedy of Stella and Aiden, the former convict and department store manager. Stella just got out of jail for something she’s ready to leave in the past, and when she critiques a tacky department store window, she gets offered the job as the new window dresser. Stella’s trying to stay on the right path, but with Aiden’s southern charm and humor, she doesn’t know if she can hold off. Window Shopping is perfect for fans of Ted Lasso! Aiden’s humor and southern style is reminiscent of our favorite football TV coach.

  1. Nick and Noel’s Christmas Playlist, by Codi Hall

Nick and Noel’s Christmas Playlist follows two childhood best friends now into their 20s. Nick and Noel were in the military together, but Noel got out early to work as a labor and delivery nurse, and Nick just got back. The two try and navigate their new relationship several years since seeing each other. And on top of that, Nick just broke up with his long-term relationship and needs some Christmas cheer! This book is reminiscent of a Hallmark movie and for certain to get anyone into the Christmas spirit. Just turn on Brittney Spears’ “My Only Wish (This Year)” and enjoy the festivities!

  1. One Day in December, by Josie Silver

One night, Laurie sees the man she knows she belongs with. But he’s getting on a bus, and she’s just too far behind to stop him and say hi. Laurie runs into him again and again over the next ten years, but the timing is never right for either of them. One Day in December follows Laurie and Jack, the mystery man, over the next ten years. This book is a holiday slow burn perfect for any romance lover.

  1. One Last Gift, by Emily Stone

Cassie and Tom lost their parents at a young age and became close in their grief. Cassie and Tom had their friend group, and Cassie had a little crush on Tom’s best friend, Sam. In their 20s, Tom dies in a freak accident. Cassie loses Tom, and in a sense, she loses Sam too. Tom always made Cassie a Christmas scavenger hunt as her present, and a few months after he passes, Cassie discovers the one Tom made before he passed. Cassie takes the following months to work her way through her brother’s scavenger hunt while trying to process her loss. One Last Gift is another tearjerker, but so worth the read!

  1. ‘Tis the Season for Revenge, by Morgan Elizabeth

Abbie has been in love with Richard for four years, but when he breaks up with her on Halloween she starts to realize how toxic he was for her. In order to make Richard regret what he did to Abbie, she decided she’s going to get with his boss, Damien. Abbie starts to date Damien but begins to realize that maybe there’s more to their relationship than just revenge. But how can Abbie continue their relationship built on lies? ‘Tis the Season for Revenge is so reminiscent of Legally Blonde! Abbie is a pink loving girl with ambition, like Elle, and needs to get revenge on her ex who swore she wasn’t serious enough. Anyone who loves Legally Blonde (and who doesn’t?) should read this book.
