As my last semester at Denison University is hurdling towards me, my roommates and I began to realize that there are so many things I want to do before I graduate. But these are not necessarily just things I would like to do at Denison but in the surrounding area. Even though I loved my time in Ohio, I am not sure that Ohio will be my permanent home. This is why my roommates and I have begun to cultivate a list of Ohio musts we would like to experience before graduating in the spring!

  1. See “The Basket”
    • In Newark, Ohio (which is not at all far from Denison) is a building shaped like a giant woven basket called the Longaberger basket. It serves many community members and people driving by as a bit of a tourist attraction because of its extravagance and creativity. However, it also serves as a fully functional corporate building for a manufacturer and distributor of wooden, woven baskets! Over the years “the basket” has seemed to be a must-see building for many Denison students
  2. See the Corn Statutes
    • The Field of Corn is another attraction not too far from Denison in Dublin, Ohio. The Filed of Corn is probably exactly what you’d expect it to be, a field of large corn statues. But when looking over the entire field, it is a very cool landscape that I am excited to see in person.
  3. Go to Cracker Barrel.
    • Is Cracker Barrel a national chain? Yes. Aren’t there Cracker Barrels in my home state? Also, yes. However, my friends are desperate to go to Cracker Barrel, and considering most of my other friends are from the midwest or the south, I think Cracker Barrel holds higher significance to them so I think Ohio is the right place to see what Cracker Barrel is all about.
  4. Go to the Book Loft
    • The Book Loft does not just offer a broad and incredible selection of books, but the detail and decoration they put into the physical shop are so aesthetically pleasing! Nothing better than the soft but stimulating energy from a bookstore. The book loft is in Columbus, Ohio which is a wonderful city within an hour of Denison and always makes for a great day trip.
