My Favorite Moments From The “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” 2022

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Since I was a young girl, I have always adored the “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.” Each year, hundreds of thousands of people line the streets of New York City to watch the beloved parade, while millions tune in via television. The star-studded event features A-list celebrities, singers, dancers and of course beloved characters in balloon form. Below are my favorite moments from this year’s iconic parade.

Big Time rush set cut short

The beloved recently united boy band Big Time Rush was featured on a float during the parade. They gave a show-stopping performance of their song “Paralyzed.” However, fans at home were quite upset when the opening lick of arguably the band’s most recognizable song “Boyfriend” began to play, only to be cut short by a commercial break. Fans then took to Twitter to express their dismay at missing the iconic song.

Ronald McDonald

Is anyone else unreasonably terrified by McDonald’s longtime mascot or just me? The balloon and the man in the Ronald McDonald costume will definitely haunt me for a while.

This *um* unfortunate order of balloons

Speaking of Ronald McDonald…

Two of the most beloved things in the U.S.: McDonald’s and the World Cup. However, someone really didn’t think this one through. Not to mention, Ronald’s creepy expression as he seems to chase the balloon meant to represent the United States Men’s Soccer team who are currently participating in this year’s World Cup.

Someone definitely should have double-checked this before the parade started. Nonetheless, it delivered a very well-needed laugh.

ASTRONAUT SNOOPY

He’s just so cute! Snoopy is just such a beloved “Peanut,” it’s virtually impossible to dislike everyone’s favorite dog. Fun fact: Snoopy is the longest-running balloon character to appear in “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” with this being Snoopy’s 43rd year being featured in the event

Lea Michele kicking off the parade

Somewhere out there Rachel Berry is smiling. Though Lea Michele is certainly a controversial celebrity, one thing most people can agree on is, as Kurt from “Glee” would say, “that girl can sing.”

Also, opening the parade with the number “Don’t Rain on My Parade” is sort of perfectly appropriate for the start of one of the most recognizable parades in the U.S.

Paula Abdul’s tap dance

It’s common knowledge that basically all performances from the “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” are lip-synced. This is because the floats don’t have the technology necessary to broadcast the sound to the members of the audience and the people at home watching. However, the pre-recorded sound of Paula Abdul’s tap dance was just a bit off-kilter with her performance, making it a bit awkward. However, definitely entertaining.

Savannah and hoda’s reaction to sean paul’s performance

Sean Paul at the “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” is iconic in itself. Add in his performance of the song “Temperature,” which was first released seventeen years ago, there is no doubt he truly served this Parade.

Also, who doesn’t love everyone’s favorite Today Show Hosts Savannah and Hoda? Add in their reaction to Paul’s subsequent dancing, and the viewers truly got a treat this Holiday.

Mariah Carey’s performance

The final performance of the Parade that kicks off the start of the official holiday season was given by none other than the Queen of Christmas: Mariah Carey.

Carey did suffer a similar mishap must like Paula Abdul with the audio not quite matching her performance, but it was still show-stopping nonetheless.

I hope you enjoyed these moments as much as me. Have a safe and happy holiday season everybody!
