It’s quite simple, really.

We stand together,

Hand in hand,

Wondering when the storm may blow past.

We smile at each other.

I discover,

Something private and small

In the back of my mind,

That the smile is reaching my eyes.

I remember thinking to myself

Just one year ago

That I never thought I would be in love.

That it was something

Unachievable.

Not meant for me,

But for my best friends

And I found acceptance

Towards being alone.

As I have grown

I have found a new sense of joy and light

In loving,

Something unexpected

But very welcome.

And now that I have someone,

Someone to experience the storms with,

They aren’t as scary.

I feel okay.

I feel safe.
