Gun violence is one of the leading causes of death in America today. This is especially prevalent in Hip Hop culture due to the gang/street lifestyles portrayed through the music. Within Hip hop is the subgenre of Trap music famously stemming from Atlanta, Georgia.
On November 1st, 2022, The Hip Hop world lost a Trap music trailblazer from famously known rap group Migos, Takeoff born Kirshnik Khari Ball. At the age of 28, the rapper was shot and killed by a stray bullet. After a private party took place and led to a gathering outside 810 Billiards and Bowling alley escalated into a shooting.
Two were injured and transported themselves to local hospitals and one killed identified as Takeoff. This incident took place in Houston, Texas. “We’re told Takeoff and Quavo were there playing dice when an altercation broke out and that’s when someone opened fire, shooting Takeoff … either in the head or near his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Takeoff’s death has been ruled a homicide and the Houston police department is in search of a person of interest. Many videos have surfaced of different angles of what took place that early morning but it is still an open investigation.
Takeoff was the youngest of the trio Migos and was known to be very lowkey and very focused on the music, determined to succeed. It is known that Migos wouldn’t be Migos if it wasn’t for the push of Takeoff. November 1st was a very sad day for everyone, even those who didn’t know him. Takeoff’s chill, friendly spirit was infectious and his loss has been felt.
The celebrity community was completely devastated from fashion designers, musicians, athletes, actors, to radio personalities, and comedians. There were so many people that expressed there love and respect for Takeoff like Beyonce, LeBron, Ric Flair, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
