10 Tips I’ve learned being on Weddingtok

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TAMU chapter.

Tip #1 Have a wedding basket in the dressing room

A wedding basket has all the essentials and in-case-of-emergency items. Some of these items may be band aids, tide sticks, shout wipes, ibuprofen, mints, eyelash glue, safety pins, a sewing kit, feminine hygiene products, nail files, hairspray, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, and anything else you might want to add. You never know what’s gonna happen and by being prepared with solutions for every instance, you can have one less thing to worry about on your big day.

Tip #2 Make sure your necklace is in place

Don’t want your necklace to be in the wrong spot during pictures? Add a dot of eyelash glue to the clasp of your necklace and hold it onto the back of your neck, this will save you the trouble of fixing it as it moves throughout the day.

Tip #3 Using a bag to go to the bathroom

If you have a large dress, a big reusable bag, such as the one ones from Ikea, will be a game changer. Make a slit in the middle of the bag, pull it up so that your lower body goes through and the dress can sit in the bag. Now when you need to go to the restroom you don’t have to worry about having someone hold the dress for you.

Tip #4 Make the most out of your registry

Wedding registries are an easy way for people to get you something you will actually use. But by adding more gifts on the registry, you not only give people a variety of things to choose from but also save yourself some money. Many stores will give you a discount on items that were not purchased from your registry. This is a great way to buy something you wanted for a discounted price.

Tip #5 Discrete tissue

For some people, being up on the altar can make you get a little emotional. Having a tissue on hand can not only save your makeup but also be out of place when pictures are being taken. One way to solve this problem is to have a napkin folded to a square or rectangle small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Place the tissue in between your palm and the bouquet. So when you’re walking down the aisle and on the altar, you won’t be able to see that you’re holding a tissue.

Tip #6 Have pictures for the next day

Wedding pictures often take some time to get back to you. Give your bridesmaid your phone to take pictures on throughout the day so that the next day you can look back without having to wait and possibly see moments the photographer may not have been able to capture. Also, you may want to have a shared album so other people can share their pictures and videos with you; the guests may have captured things you didn’t get to see on the big day.

Tip #7 Taking a moment

With everything happening and people pulling you every which way, sometimes it’s hard to stop and just enjoy the moment. Step back with your partner, maybe go to the back of the room or second floor if there is one. Be out of sight so you can be alone together, and just look at everything you worked on and hoped for, the people celebrating, and to just take it all in.

Tip #8 Getting pictures with everyone

Oftentimes when it’s time to take group pictures, there may be one person that is missing or didn’t know the picture was taken yet. Give your photographer a list of who you want pictures with so they know who is supposed to be in what picture. And for extra assurance that everyone who is supposed to be in the picture is there, they can also call them on the mic.

Tip #9 Make sure the bridal party has signed the guestbook

With the bridal parties having duties on the big day, it can get a little hectic and they may forget to do some things. One of those things may be signing the guestbook. A way to make sure everyone signs it is to have a designated person to go around the rooms while everyone is getting ready.

Tip #10 Have a Wedding scent

Both the bride and groom would pick out a fragrance or pick one out for each other. You would wear this scent on special occasions having to do with your marriage. These could be an engagement party, bridal shower, reception, wedding, or first anniversary. Whenever you wear it, the scent will bring back all the good memories associated with your marriage events.

Bonus Tip!

Sit on opposing sides

Traditionally the family and friends sit on the side of who they know or are related to. By sitting like this, you only really see the back of their head as they go through the ceremony. So you should have your loved ones sit on opposing sides so that they can see your face.
