We all know those thoughts in your mind that come up when you’re listening to all those stupid love songs that grip your heart in pain. That one thought that keeps you up at night staring at a blank ceiling: “Will I ever fall in love?

Nowadays, I feel like falling in love is hard, especially when hook-up culture is so normalized. Someone always ends up getting hurt at the end of a hookup because one person starts to fall in love while the other walks away. It becomes hard to allow people into your heart because you don’t know what their intentions will become later on. Sometimes it’s easier to walk away before you completely fall in love and get your heart broken all over again.

But what happens when you meet someone you didn’t expect to meet, that person who suddenly you can’t stop thinking about? It’s nothing specific that they do, but you somehow can’t forget them. You try to pull away but they keep drawing you back in. You start fighting the truth and trying to hide the fact that you are slowly falling in love. You can’t stop thinking about them and their every action consumes your heart and mind. You want to trust them and believe that they are different from all the other people who you’ve talked to, but something doesn’t allow you to. You are scared to fall in love.

You are scared you will love them too much while they won’t love you enough. You are scared because what if you get ghosted a month or two from now? You are scared that you will fall in love so hard that they will break you even more. You are scared because love is complicated.

Whether we like it or not, falling in love is hard. We grow up watching all these movies with happy fairytale endings. We are shown that love is easy. We are shown that if we love then love will be reciprocated but that’s not how it works in real life. There are so many complicated twists and turns when it comes to love.
