“SCARY” IS THE GO-TO SONG FOR SPOOKY SEASON

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

Megan Thee Stallion’s “Scary” is the song we all needed for Halloween

It’s that time of the year again! Fall is here, and that means Halloween is around the corner. Pull out your hoodies and sweaters, get cozy under your blanket, and turn on the heater as you pick out your favourite halloween song.

The music during this time of year is vital, though everyone celebrates the spooky season differently. There are  fun traditions such as watching horror movies, handing out candy to trick-or-treaters, visiting haunted houses, making s’mores, eating some yummy pumpkin pies, ordering the pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks, dressing up in costumes, hosting game nights, and pumpkin picking and carving.

If you are planning a halloween party, a get-together with your girls, or you just need the perfect song to blast then “Scary” by Megan Thee Stallion is the song for you.  On Oct. 1, Tina Snow (her alter-ego) welcomed the spooky season with a pumpkin on her head as she posed for instagram photos. In Oct. 2021, she did something similar by posing with a pumpkin on her head while laying on a  bed holding a remote control.  Before the month was out, she squeezed in 10 Halloween-themed manicures. On Oct. 20, she took to Instagram to announce she’s hosting a Halloween party this year, which she captions “Hottiween is gonna be BIG this year. Save thee date, have your costumes READY”.

“Scary” is the tenth track on her latest album, Traumazine, and it features rapper Rico Nasty. Megan gives hip-hop/rap fans the ultimate halloween anthem as theremin elements and horror movie allusions are used on the track. It is a standout song on the album. “Red bottoms on my feet, Bloody Mary on my toes / Every time I pop out, it gets scary for you,” Megan Thee Stallion raps over a spooky instrumental. Rico Nasty is the perfect feature for this song as she often uses this type of eerie, electric, hyperpop instrumental in her songs. She makes references to a little terror realm of her own while playing with the horror theme. “When I pop out, it get scary like a cemetery (Cemetery) I’m fresh to death, I need a hearse when I go shoppin’, baby (Yeah), He like me ’cause i’m godly (Yeah), Texas chainsaw in the whip, Shout out Megan the hottie (Let’s go), yeah, I be the hottest topic (Rico)’’ Rico Nasty raps.

Megan Thee Stallion is an amazing rapper and with her love for the spooky season, I hope she continues to release more Halloween themed songs in the future.
