10 Things to Do Around Boston This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

Tired of spending weekends sitting around alone in your room? Same here! Grab some friends and try out one of these fun fall ideas:

1. Have a picnic

Put on a cute outfit, grab some snacks and enjoy the beautiful changing leaves on a sunny day. Try a place like the Boston Public Garden, North Point Park or Fan Pier Park. This may seem like an easy one, but it can be as simple or as detailed as you want it to be! Try doing a potluck, a charcuterie picnic or even picking a fun theme for your food like: ‘sweet tooth cravings’ or ‘friendsgiving!’

2. Have a karaoke night!

This is my personal favorite thing to do with friends on a weekend. You can try reserving a room at a place like King’s or Station, or you can even make it work from your dorm room with a little YouTube and some makeshift microphones.

3. Shopping

Another classic – go shopping for a day on Newbury Street or in the Garment District! Shop all the latest fall trends, stop for a coffee or lunch and spend some time with your favorite people.

4. Grab a snack at Time Out Market

Try a new food or grab a meal at this fun market over by Fenway! From Italian food to Mediterranean, they have anything and everything, so you won’t have to worry about everyone arguing over what they want.

5. Host an event at home!

Don’t want to expose yourself to the New England cold? Invite some friends over and host a movie night or game night! If you want something more unique, grab some canvases and try your hand at painting, or you can even get a puzzle and try to finish it all at once! And if you’re hungry, cooking or baking with friends never fails to be a good time.

6. Spend a day at the aquarium

What better way to spend a chilly fall day than with our aquatic buddies at the New England Aquarium? There’s even a $2 off discount for college students and another $2 off discount if you have a Charlie Card!

7. Plan a day trip

Want to escape Boston for a day? Trains run to locations like Providence, RI, New Haven, CT, and New York City, NY, in 4 hours or less! Hop on and take a trip to explore somewhere new! Or, for some spooky fun, go see the Halloween sights in Salem, MA.

8. Go to a museum

Boston is full of fun museums like the Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Bad Art or the Museum of Science. Lots of Boston’s museums provide free admission or discounts for college students, so be sure to check them out!

9. Have a typical Boston tourist day

Go to Faneuil Hall, walk the Freedom Trail, visit Bunker Hill, and explore the Charles River. Living in Boston can make you forget how much history the city is full of! Take advantage of what’s around you while you’re here.

10. Find a concert or sports game

Boston is full of cool concert venues like MGM Music Hall, the Paradise Rock Club and House of Blues. We’re also home to TD Garden and Fenway Park. Look at different venues’ schedules, find your favorite artist or team, and grab a ticket!
