Dear Redheads, I Think I Found Your New Favorite Makeup Brand

Redheads make up two percent of the world’s population, and while having rare, fiery locks is fantastic and can help you stand out in a crowd, having red hair comes with a price. Cosmetic companies tend to ignore gingers when developing their shade range for eyebrow gel, mascara, blush and other products.

When browsing for an internship last year, I stumbled upon a woman-owned small business that launched earlier this year called Ginger Beauty. Even though I’m not a redhead myself, I believed in the company’s mission statement and decided to apply. Since getting the job, I’ve learned so much about what it takes to develop the right products for redheads.

Ginger Beauty’s founder, Estelle Waldeck, a redhead herself, has been working towards crafting the perfect vegan and cruelty-free makeup collection for redheads since 2015. According to an article from Ginger Beauty’s website, Waldeck says “it is our mission to create space in a niche that is fiercely untapped. We want auburn, strawberry blonde and dark red shades to be celebrated. We want makeup for redheads to be more readily accessible.”

Currently, Ginger Beauty carries six products, each carefully crafted to work with different shades of red hair. Their best seller is a brow gel called “Gingel,” which, according to the description on the brand’s website, Gingel is “the perfect clear coat.” If you’re looking for a bit of color for your brows, they have two powders: Aubrow and Lightbrow. The Aubrow powder was developed for auburn-colored redheads or gingers with darker tones, while the Lightbrow powder caters to strawberry blondes and hair with more red-orange tones.

Another popular product from Ginger Beauty is their MC1R Serum. This serum, named after the gene mutation that causes red hair, is a growth serum for your eyebrows. It contains cannabis sativa seed oil; the company’s website claims, “cannabis sativa seed oil promotes natural hair growth. This super oil helps reduce inflammation and improves blood circulation upon topical application because of its ability to penetrate well beyond the top layer of skin.”

If all of these products sound appealing to you, try Ginger Beauty’s MC1R Beauty Box. The Beauty Box contains all four vegan and cruelty-free products listed above and their “Ging Brush,” their signature powder applicator. The MC1R Beauty Box retails for $69.99.

Ginger Beauty is just getting started, and they’re ready to take the beauty industry by storm, so be on the lookout for new products and campaigns!
