It’s almost halfway through October, and that can only mean one thing – the spooky season. If you’re looking to embrace the scary atmosphere that Halloween brings, but want to stay in the comfort of your own home, scary movies are the way to go. As a horror connoisseur, I have created a list of some of the best horror movies to see this October.

  1. Get Out (2017)

Starting off strong with this Jordan Peele classic. If you’re looking for a movie that has an interesting concept and strong screenplay, this movie is for you! Peele did such a great job in his horror debut, and Get Out is one of my favorite horror films by far.

2. Halloween (1978)

Even with all of its many reincarnations and string of adaptations, the original Halloween film is a horror classic. What is scarier than a masked serial killer terrorizing a small town, I’ll wait.

3. Friday the 13th (1980)

Sticking with the classics comes another old horror film and its series, Friday the 13th. Like Halloween, Friday the 13th is a classic series for a reason. Plus, the benefit of having it as a series is that there are more thrills to see. Who wouldn’t want to see campers be hunted down one by one by a masked killer?

4. Jeepers Creepers (2001)

This film is such an underrated one, but the concept is absolutely terrifying. Watch as creatures come back to life every 23rd spring to wreak havoc on a town and feast on its inhabitants. Trust me, road trips will never feel the same after this one.

5. Hereditary (2018)

I saved the best for last. Hereditary is the best, well, one of the best, horror films I’ve seen. Hereditary is different from the regular horror films which focus on jump scares and serial killers. Instead, the film creates a disturbing atmosphere, and leaves its viewers questioning what they just watched. Every horror fanatic needs to see this film.

Happy watching!
