6 Twitter & TikTok Accounts To Follow To Keep Up With The Midterm Elections

Are you registered to vote? If not, go open another tab and do that immediately! But if you are, surely you’re already thinking about what key voting issues you care about and which candidates to support.

Frankly, there’s a lot at stake this election, from gun control to climate change,  and every vote counts. There are many issues and candidates to keep track of, but luckily, you don’t have to do that all on your own. The good thing about voting in 2022 is that you can make the most out of social media to stay informed. So without further ado, here are the best Twitter and TikTok accounts to follow if you want to keep up with all relevant info for the U.S. midterm elections on Nov. 8.

Twitter

When We All Vote

Created by First Lady Michelle Obama, When We All Vote is a national nonpartisan organization aiming to increase voter participation, with a focus on younger voters in particular. It even has several Gen Z celebrities, such as Selena Gomez and Bretman Rock, as co-chairs! You can follow their Twitter account for valuable information concerning voter registration, voter statistics, and several high-stakes issues that are on the ballot this year.

Planned Parenthood Action

If abortion is one of your main voting concerns this election, definitely check out Planned Parenthood Action. As per their website, Planned Parenthood Action works to advance access to sexual healthcare and reproductive rights. Their Twitter account provides useful information on what state representatives are doing to save (or further repeal) abortion rights as well as other issues concerning healthcare and LGBTQ rights. You know, so you can vote them out.

The Hill

The Hill is the largest independent political news site in the United States and an excellent source for all news related to politics and policy. While they also cover international news, much of their recent content focuses on the upcoming elections. It’s nonpartisan, consistently reliable, and publishes several interesting articles every day. Check out this one on the Senate seats most likely to flip.

TikTok

The Recount

The Recount understands that media bias is rampant and aims to reshape news and video journalism for today’s popular streaming and social media platforms. No fake news, no alternative facts. Their videos are entertaining, informative, and easy to follow. So, if you’re looking to fill your TikTok FYP with more political content, The Recount is a great place to start.

Olivia Julianna

Hailing from Texas, Gen Z activist Olivia Julianna gained traction for taking on Congressman Matt Gaetz and raising millions for abortion funds. And being a Gen Z activist, it makes sense for her to capitalize off the ultimate Gen Z medium: TikTok. Abortion is a big voting issue for Gen Z, and Olivia frequently highlights pro-choice candidates on this year’s ballots like Beto O’Rourke in Texas and Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania.

Gen-Z for Change

Finally, we have a resource by and for Gen Z (other than Her Campus, of course). Gen-Z for Change is a nonprofit organization that uses social media to mobilize and educate our generation of voters. They partner with several influencers and activists (Olivia Julianna is an ambassador!) to produce multimedia content covering several important issues from climate change to foreign policy. Gen-Z for Change will flood your TikTok FYP with engaging content that will make sure you make informed decisions in the voting booth.

Hopefully these accounts can help you get excited and mobilized for the upcoming election. Surely you’ve heard this a thousand times by now, but every vote really counts. So give these accounts a follow and help spread their message.
