Everything you got going on down there is normal! Women on social media have been normalizing talking about discharge, p*ssy size, and even vaginal transudate (WAP). So let’s normalize something else: getting familiar with your p*ssy. Medically, so you are in tune to your body. And sexually, how can you expect to let someone make you feel good if you don’t know what makes you feel good?

First, let’s talk medically; you should take a look at your p*ssy. Once you know what’s normal, you’ll be able to spot if anything is wrong. If it is your first time looking down there, you may feel weird or anxious but just know you are doing yourself a favor. If you don’t know all of your parts, a simple Google search image “vagina informational picture,” you’ll be able to easily identify the vulva, which is external and internal, and is the actual vagina. Knowing your layout you’ll be able to feel signals if anything is wrong and visually you’ll be able to see abnormalities. These are called vaginal self-examines. Look for any lumps or unusual smells or discharge because some discharge is okay. These examinations are best to do whenever. There’s no set time to get to know your vagina, just aim to do it regularly. (Melanie Leyshon & Claire Fielden, Healthily, 2022)

Now let’s talk masturbation; physically female masturbation opens the cervix, lubricates the vagina and flushes out the bad yeast and bacteria from the cervix, helping prevent infections such as UTI’s.

  • With the natural hormones released by masturbation, it is proven to help you relax or even wind down at night for  better sleep. At the start, your dopamine will rise and right after oxytocin and endorphins wrap around you like a warm blanket quite literally making you feel an afterglow which helps you drift off to sleep or continue with your relaxation time. ( Dr. Sharon Stills, Women’s Health Network, 2022)

Not only is masturbation good for relaxation, it strengthens your relationship with yourself. It is important to get to know you, in every way. However you decide to masturbate, take note of your hormones. They are there to improve your mood, and relieve depressed emotions and stress.

So take a mirror down there, play some music and get comfy. It’s important to get familiar with your p*ssy.
