Fall is all about change but one thing that never changes every fall is the need to re-watch “Gilmore Girls.” If there is one show that encapsulates this season, it is “Gilmore Girls.” If you have never seen this show, it is a well-loved story of a mother and daughter who live in a small town of quirky characters and it is all about love and comfort. If you love the found family trope, then this show is for you.

While Stars Hollow is technically a fictional place it emulates a feeling that can be recreated if you try hard enough to romanticize your life this fall. The best part of my life is romanticizing it. That may seem sad but how can you be sad while you are sipping on hot coffee and Carole King is playing in the background? I would let Amy Sherman-Palladino write my life. Here I will be sharing with you the simple ways to try and live life this fall like you are living in Stars Hollow.

Gilmore Girls walking through Fall Festival

First things first, coffee! There is nothing more fall than feeling the cold morning breeze and that first sip of coffee. While most coffee lovers have their own coffee routine at home, going to a coffee shop can be half the fun. While not all of us have a Luke’s to go to every morning most towns have local coffee shops. Nothing is more fun than walking into a coffee shop and having the barista know your order. But if you are trying to live your Gilmore Girls fantasy, the actor that plays Luke, Scott Patterson, has made his own coffee company called Scotty P’s Coffee. You can buy it on Amazon or on his website: scottyp.com. One can only hope it tastes like the coffee he brews in the show.

One thing that you could do to live your best Stars Hollow life is to talk a fall stroll and listen to a good autumn playlist. Taking a good walk around your local downtown area or a nice park can help with any stress you might be feeling this fall. While there are a bunch of Gilmore Girl playlists on Spotify that you could easily look up, here are some songs I would recommend listening to while you are passing Miss Patties dance class and Kirk is doing something weird.

Stars Hollow Playlist:

  • “There She Goes”- The La’s
  • “Sweet Marie”- The Walters
  • “Kiss Me”- Sixpence None The Richer
  • “Reflecting Light”- Sam Philips
  • “Baby, I’m Yours”- Arctic Monkeys
  • “How to Dream”- Sam Philips
  • “Where You Lead”- Carole King
  • “Begin Again”- Taylor Swift
  • “Fade Into You”- Mazzy Star

Another way to romanticize your life is to escape into good stories. Rory Gilmore is known for being smart and for her love for books. While we can not visit Stars Hollow Books, it is still a fun fall activity to get lost in a bookstore. Here are a few books that Rory reads so you can check them off your reading list:

  • 1984 by George Orwell
  • Beloved by Toni Morrison
  • Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
  • The Art of War by Sun Tzu
  • The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer

Lastly, a good way to end your day like you are in Stars Hollow is to watch a classic movie with some Chinese food just like our favorite Gilmore girls. How else are you supposed to know all of the references in the show? Whether you prefer going out to somewhere like “black and white- read movie theater” in Stars Hollow or staying in with your comfort people at home to watch a good movie it is a good way to spend a fall night.

While these were just a few small things that you can do to romanticize a fall day like you are Rory or Lorelai, I hope that your fall is filled with the la la la’s. I know that I will spend time doing all of these things while also watching Gilmore Girls, A Nora Ephron film or the All Too Well short film for the tenth time. No matter what you spend your time doing this fall let it be filled with quick banter and the ones you love.
