Is Sol de Janeiro Worth the Hype?

The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Endicott chapter.

If you’ve been following my other articles you know that I am on a quest to become “That Girl.” In my last article, I talked about how having a signature scent is one of the hallmarks of becoming “That Girl”, and I spoke about how Very Good Girl by Carolina Herrera might just be my signature scent. Well at 80 dollars an ounce, I was for sure playing out of my league, especially now that I’m at school and jobless. So, I was on the hunt for an alternative. I don’t know if any of you are also easily influenced by Tik Tok, but one of the Tik Tokers I follow (@darcymcqueenyy) was hyping up this brand, Sol de Janeiro. At 20 dollars for 3 ounces I thought this was a no brainer, so I tried some scents and this is what I thought!

The first scent I tried was Brazilian Crush Cheirosa 71. My boyfriend actually talked me into this scent. I like how it smells, it’s very homey. The scent is rich and full, but it is a much heavier scent. It makes me think of sweaters and winter time. There is also a strong nutty scent which is nice, but again adds to the heaviness of it. I would wear this scent in the winter and late fall the most, but you could also rock it all year round if you want.

The second set I tried was one that I picked out. This scent was Brazilian Crush Cheirosa 40 Bom Dia Bright. You guys, this scent is so much lighter than the first one! It smells like fruit with a small hint of vanilla. Personally, I love it more than the first scent even though my boyfriend swears by the first one. I feel like I like this scent more because I have a more strong/intense look to me, my facial features are prominent and my personality is large, so having a nice floral scent really helps to contrast my overall vibe. But perfume is great because it represents you as an individual, so you can pick whichever one works best for you!

BONUS- Although I only ordered two scents there was an option to get a bonus item so I got a Bum Bum Cream in their most popular scent which is said to smell like salted caramel, vanilla, and pistachio (soldejanerio.com). It smells really good, but it wasn’t so good that I wished I got it in a perfume. I will say, though, it is a nice balance between the heaviness of the 71 and the lightness of the 40 if you’re looking for a nice middle ground.

This is by no means all the scents on the website. For instance, I know that there is a pink scent that is supposed to smell like dragons’ fruit and jasmine (soldejanerio.com), if that interests you, so I would definitely give this site a try. My items shipped quickly and I love these perfumes. They are budget friendly, and also double as hair mists, so if you’re like me and hate washing your hair, this could be the pick me up your hair needs to last that one more day before you wash it!

I hope you enjoyed this article! Check out soldejaneiro.com for more information on all the perfumes!

Xxx,

Jillian
