Aura Playlists: Your Soul Reflected in Soundwaves

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

People carry energy wherever they go, almost like projecting a fragment of their soul. One can think of souls as personality, the embodiment of character or morals, or simply put: a vibe that is radiated. Although it is not concrete or scientific logic, it gives everyone their own entity of life. This thought process and my love for Spotify playlists led me to making my very own Aura playlist. Seemingly unrelated, the two concepts collide in the commonality that music’s sound waves are like an imitation of one projecting their energy. It is what is sent out into the world, just as songs are messages with intent and meaning.

Auras are described as the surrounding field a person emanates on a consistent basis. With the playlist derived from my own aura, it encapsulates personal details, characteristics, and life experience all in a concise collection of songs. Over spring break, my friends and I sat on the couch comparing music tastes when they noticed the playlist titled “aura” on my homepage and were immediately intrigued. Subsequently, the afternoon was spent with all of us huddled on the couch creating Spotify (or Apple Music) compilations based on what we knew about the others, their personality quirks, and attributes we admired about one another.

Taking the time to reflect on which music resonates with who you are or just finding what fits your musical style puts a spin on the personability playlists have. Go out on a relaxing picnic and reflect, chill in your room, or take out your phone and make one on a whim. This playlist has honestly become a dynamic journal of songs for me that grows as I do, maintaining some of the old parts and welcoming the new. There is no concrete guideline to making one of your own; it is totally, wholly, and uniquely you. From the cover photo to the order of the songs, it is all in your control and for the expression of what you as a person are. I would definitely encourage people to try it out and get the chance to curate your very own personality ambiance. Or if not, you at least have a Spotify playlist with a somewhat aesthetic title!
