New York Fashion Week returned with a bang for 2022, and the shows did not disappoint. I’ve created a tradition for myself to come time for NYFW, to go through and look at every single collection showcased at the event and choose my favorites. So, without further ado, here are my 15 favorite collections from NYFW 2022 (in no particular order).
Alaïa
Creative Director: Pieter Mulier
Whenever I think about Alaïa, I think of the scene in Clueless where Cher is robbed but refuses to lay on the ground because her “dress is an Alaïa.” This collection gave me something else to think about. My favorite look is the denim jumpsuit with feather trim, as shown on the first slide.
Christian Siriano
I am actually obsessed with everything about Christian Siriano’s show this year. He showcased his work in Elizabeth Taylor’s former New York home, which was perfect considering the entire collection was inspired by Old Hollywood Glamour, which Taylor is arguably the face of.
Monique Lhuillier
Monique Lhuillier is one of those brands that I think is criminally underrated. Rather than being shown in an actual show, they did a digital photo showcase, and honestly, I am glad that they did because the photos are stunning and highlight the most beautiful parts of the dresses that may not have been noticed on the runway. My favorite piece is the pink satin dress with matching gloves on slide three.
Naeem Khan
Naeem Khan is another really underrated brand. This collection was full of bright colors and patterns with more neutral pieces, which create perfect harmony for a collection that appeals to multiple audiences. I absolutely love the flower tops that are seen on the first slide and throughout other pieces in the show.
Proenza Schouler
Creative Directors: Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez
This showcase screams business casual extravaganza with a beachy twist. I say “beachy twist” because of outfits in slides two and three that are reminiscent of a fancy beach coverup. My favorite piece is seen on the first slide with the white dress and giant ruffled sleeves with black trim.
Prabal Gurung
Taking color notes from Valentino, Prabal Gurung was tickled pink with their SS23 collection. The showcase featured flowing dresses to structured pieces; each was unique in its own way. My favorite piece is the dress on the tenth and final slide. I think it is messily beautiful, and I love the gown paired with the black gloves.
Alice + Olivia
Creative Director: Stacey Bendet
Alice + Olivia is one of those brands that never miss in my eyes. I love how they do their NYFW showcases because although they don’t do a live runway show, their photoshoots are always color-coordinated, which I love. It was hard to pick a favorite, but I think the two pink outfits on slide eight take the cake.
Badgley Mischka
I love this Badgley Mischka collection, as it is another feminine and graceful showcase. I am a sucker for gowns, florals, pinks, and suits; this compilation has all of those, so I was bound to fall in love with it. My favorite piece is the pink sequin pantsuit on slide two, and I would love to have it in my closet even if I don’t have anywhere to wear it.
Veronica Beard
I know I mentioned Cher from Clueless earlier, but I think that she would totally wear every piece in this collection. There was a feel of 90s Chanel with a modern twist, and I really liked it. My favorite piece is the hot pink/coral tweed dress and matching jacket, which scream Elle Woods.
Carolina Herrera
Creative Director: Wes Gordon
I think Carolina Herrera presented yet another colorful and pattern-filled show that hits the mark. It was a consistent and inconsistent collection, and I am not mad about it. My favorite look is the pink ballgown with green leaves all over it on slide three.
LaQuan Smith
LaQuan Smith’s collection was another showcase with radiantly vibrant colors. I love how the collection flows together, and I feel like it appeals to many different tastes. The pink dress with a sparkle bust on the last slide is my favorite piece.
Pamella Roland
This is one of my favorites from this year. It was so difficult for me to choose ten looks to showcase because I was obsessed with almost everyone strutting down the runway. There was this sense of elegance throughout the show, and I love that the final look was an extravagant wedding ballgown. My favorite look is the pink ombréd feather dress as seen in the first slide.
Aliétte
Creative Director: Jason Rambert
I can’t lie when I say that I had never heard of Aliétte before, but now I am glad I have. This is another collection that showcased bright colors, metallic materials, and its fair share of feathers. My favorite look is on slide five and it is the neon pink, oversized coat with a pink feather skirt underneath.
Markarian
Creative Director: Alexandra O’Neill
Markarian was one of my favorite shows last year, and I am really glad they are making an appearance this year! The collection was a bit all over the place, but I liked it and loved how there were different dresses for everyone’s liking. The bright pink ballgown with the ruffled and ruched bust is my favorite look seen on slide eight.
Tom Ford
Now, I feel like I need to start by saying that Tom Ford is my favorite designer of all time, and he can do no wrong in my eyes. So yes, I am extremely biased. I liked this collection–not loved but liked–and it felt like a callback to his Gucci days. The entire show was an 80s Western theme with glam at the end, and I enjoyed it and felt like it was a great finale to NYFW. My favorite looks were the sparkly dresses with matching gigantic hoop earrings seen in slides nine and ten on sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid.
Well, NYFW 2022 has come and gone and I enjoyed every second of it and I look forward to doing it again next year! (Maybe I’ll even be in the crowd!)
