Jazzy January Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WPUNJ chapter.

Days 1 – 11: Let’s be realistic. The only holiday that matters is winter break. Besides we’re all much too tired, busy, and carefree to be bothered with imaginary holidays anyway. So, let’s continue with our never-ending list of holidays.

Oh, and by the way, welcome to 2014

National Pharmacist Day – Pharmacists are very undervalued in our society. They singlehandedly are responsible for tens and hundreds of thousand lives, specifically the elderly and those who are medicine-dependent. Take time out of your day to stop by your local pharmacy counter and offer a smile and a thank you.

Make Your Dream Come True Day – People often lose sight of their dreams, especially college students who get caught up in going through the motions of college. On the first official day back from break, seize the day to move towards accomplishing your dream. You might even make it come true!

Dress Up Your Pet Day – Dress your pet up day? I think I’ll pass. Is it just me, or do pets always look miserable when they’re stuffed into a costume and topped with a ridiculous sort of hat? Poor Fido.

National Hat Day – Baseball caps and birthday hats; cowboy hats and fedoras. Whatever your favorite hat is, make sure to show it some love today. Everyone knows that hats can be the cutest accessory.

National Nothing Day – If nobody can be even bothered to come up with a silly holiday, then I can’t be bothered to come up with any silly commentary. So, yeah; no comment.

Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day – This one is pretty self-explanatory. Screw that diet. No one cares if you ran two miles or to the freezer for two scoops of ice cream. It isn’t going to stop the world from turning. Be a rebel; New Year’s resolutions never last.

Winnie the Pooh Day -The birthday of Winnie’s author, A.A. Milne, is on January 18th. Therefore, it’s only fitting to celebrate Christopher Robin and his stuffed friends down in the Hundred Acre Woods.

National Popcorn Day – This is a day where everyone can celebrate the greatest snack ever made to enjoy during a movie.

Penguin Awareness Day – Today is the perfect day for everyone to put aside their affection for turtles and kitties and enjoy those cute black and white birds from way down south.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day – This holiday is for civil rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, celebrated on the third Monday of January.

National Hugging Day – Today is a time where, for 24 hours, a warm embrace wrapped in the arms of two people is more than appreciated.

National Blonde Brownie Day – What the heck is a blonde brownie? I don’t know. Oh well; it has a day, so it must be important right? Go, dessert!

National Handwriting Day – This is the day where the champion handwriters from across the nation meet and battle for the world title of best handwriting. Not really, but it’s a cool mental image. If you’re looking for some fun handwriting-related activity to celebrate today, check out www.myscriptfont.com, which lets you turn your handwriting into a font for use on your computer! It’s like handwriting something without the work!

Compliment DayYou look so pretty today! Thought that was nice? Then you will enjoy today for sure! Pass the good karma on!

Opposite Day – Yes means no, and blue means red. Opposite day is a day where you act nothing like yourself and pretend everything has been turned on its head.

Spouse’s Day – Today, grab your loved one in your arms and make them remember why they are happy to be in your life and vice-versa. You might find to be glad that you did.

Punch the Clock Day – This day could mean a load of things. It could be encouragement to “punch the clock” at work to record your hours. Or maybe you should listen to some jams from the Elvis Costello album, “Punch the Clock.” Or, our personal favorite, find the clock nearest to you and put on your best Rocky Balboa impersonation!

National Kazoo Day – Today is the day (the only day) where those little, annoying, plastic noisemakers are acceptable. Everyone knows that this is the only ‘instrument’ that you don’t need rhythm to play.

National Puzzle Day – Who needs video games and other electronics? For today, unplug it all and get frustrated trying to fit little pieces of colored cardboard together.

National Inane Answering Message Day – If you were looking for a day to change that silly voicemail recording you’ve had since freshman year of high school, today is it. No more long beeps, no more long-winded recordings; no more answering pranks. “Hello? Oh, hey. Yeah, I’m good; how are you? That’s awesome, but you might want to repeat everything you just said because I’m not actually on the phone! Hahaha!”

Inspire Your Heart with Art Day – You don’t need a paintbrush and a canvas for this day; just turn on the right side of your brain and let your creativity flow for all to see!

Thanks to HolidayInsight.com for the list of holidays once more. We’ll see you back here for Funky February!
