Five Skin Care Products You Need This Winter Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

1. Volition Illuminating Body Milk / Thanakha Radiant Bronzer

In my opinion, one of the worst parts of winter is that we all lose our beautiful summer glow. Our bodies start to resemble our Halloween costumes – dead, and overall it’s just not a cute look. In order to illuminate, not only on my body but also on my face, I use these specific products.

The illuminating body milk by Volition Beauty has quickly become my favourite body product when I want to show a little skin in the winter. It brings back all the life to your skin and adds a beautiful pink tinted iridescence without looking glittery.

I use the Thanakha Radiant Bronzer to bring some colour back to my face without packing on the bronzer. This bronzer is a thin liquid consistency so you can add a few drops into your foundation or daily moisturizer. Not only will it add some colour to your face, but also a little radiance. If you want to add some colour back to your body, you can add a few pumps into your body moisturizer.

PRO TIP: Radiance makes you look more awake when exams are killing you and you’re trying to survive off of 5 hours of sleep.

2. The Magic Pads

The magic pads are by far the most convenient, beneficial product to hit the market. They’re a super easy pad you swipe all over your face, up to twice a day (I only use them at night). They are super gentle while exfoliating, moisturizing, targeting problematic areas, brightening, and shrinking your pores. For those nights when you can’t be bothered to spend time on your skin, these pads are a savior and your skin will thank you. The main thing I like about these pads is that they are an all-in-one product, but I also really enjoy the saturation. They aren’t too wet to the point that the product runs down your face, but they aren’t too dry where you are required to use multiple.

3.  Face Moisturizer (Volition Oceanene Defense Gel)

As we all know, with dry weather comes dry skin. One of the worst things, in my opinion, is putting on makeup in the winter only to realize your face looks cakey due to a seriously dry patch. My favourite moisturizer is Volition Oceanene Defense Gel. It applies smoothly and dries super quickly so it is perfect for both under makeup and before bed.

4. Eye Cream (First Aid Beauty – 5 in 1 Eye Cream)

Your eyes are a super, super sensitive part of your face and they are the first thing that will start aging. Whether you’re 16 or 40, eye cream is a beneficial beauty product. When winter hits and your face gets dry, so do your under eyes, and there is nothing less attractive than cakey or dry under eyes – not to mention midterms are sucking all your energy and sleep, leaving you with dark circles. The eye cream is also cooling, which de-puffs and works to illuminate some of the darkness before makeup is applied.

5. Lip Balm (Dior Crème to Rose Lip Balm and Aerin Rose Up Conditioner)

This one should be obvious!! I don’t know about the rest of you, but my lips take a serious beating in the winter. Between the cold air hitting my face walking to class and the dry heat inside class, I either feel like my lips are burning or they’re super cracked and just don’t look cute . My favourite lip treatment at night is the Dior Crème to Rose lip balm. Don’t kill me because of the price, because I promise it works wonders, but if you can’t get over the price tag, a cheaper alternative is Vaseline.

For the day, I prefer a lip balm in a tube so I don’t have to stick my finger in a pot and contaminate the product with germs. My favourite is Aerin Rose Up Conditioner. I know this one is also super pricey, but a little goes a long way and it is a seriously a life saver for dried or cracked lips. A cheaper alternative for a lip balm in a tube is the Jack Black Moisture Therapy. It isn’t as great but it’ll get the job done better than Chapstick and EOS, which I find only moisturize my lips for so long before they end up being even more dried out than they were originally.
