Great classes for an extra credit hour or two!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Have you registered for all your classes yet? I know for a plethora of reasons most students need to be full time and have at least 12 credit hours each semester. I also know that after burying myself in credits this semester, it would be nice to have some breathing room! But, taking less core classes for your major my leave you just shy of the 12 credit hours you need for scholarships, internships, insurance and various discounts. So, if you’re looking for an easy extra credit hour or two, check out these classes!

One of the best places to look for single credit classes is in the ESSF credit section on the catalog. Most of these are credit/no credit and do not affect your GPA. Also, most are only half the semester, so you can take beginning and advanced or have half of the semester off of that class. All classes on the list below can be found under ESSF in the spring 2013 class schedule.

  1. Pilates classes are a great workout that won’t ruin your hair for the whole day. The U offers mat, circuit and reformer classes for all levels. The teachers are really great, too! The only caveat with these: some carry a hefty fee. Make sure to consider how much you’re willing to pay.
  2. The U has oodles of yoga classes for all levels as well. These are a great idea, especially if you’re trying to de-stress after a crazy fall. You can even do a class for teacher training! Some of these have fees but most are under $10. You do, however, have to bring your own mat, which also means carrying it all day.
  3. There are about 15 sections of Zumba! How fun! Get a few friends to take it with you, and it will be more like hanging out than going to class. Great news: Zumba classes don’t have any fees!
  1. If you’re looking for a more intense workout, a class like circuit training or weight training may be for you! By the end of the semester you can be strong and more toned, just by attending some of your regular classes and getting credit for them! A precaution: this type of class is likely to leave you sweaty and tired! Consider where you want to fit it into your schedule.

Good luck organizing your class for next semester ladies!

Jetta is a fun and spunky communication student at the University of Utah. She has a lot of energy and an outgoing personality- perfect for her work in service coordination, peer advising, the Department of Communication, Express, and of course HerCampus! Jetta loves social media, writing, and learning new promotion and advertising skills. She does not currently drive a Jetta, but hopefully she can afford one upon completion of her degree!
