Campus Celebrity: Esther Blanco

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Alright collegiettes, I know we all have that one person in our lives that represents everything badass, and for this week’s Campus Celebrity that person is Esther Blanco! A Political and Business Administration major, Esther is not only a part of the Business Scholar program at the U but is representing our very own as the ASUU Attorney General at the University of Utah! She’s an example to all of us hardworking women who are competing everyday to be recognized alongside men, so Esther here’s to you!

HC: What year are you at the U and what is your major?

EB: I am currently a senior at the University of Utah, double majoring in Political Science and Business Administration, pre-law track.

HC: What made you decide to run for Attorney General and what gave you the confidence throughout the campaign?

EB: I decided to run for Attorney General because I wanted to make an impact on campus by doing something I enjoyed. I also wanted to bring some diversity to the ASUU organization by running for an executive position.

HC: What has been the biggest challenge representing the University as Attorney General?

EB: My biggest challenge as Attorney General has been getting the word out that I am here to represent the best interest of all the students. If students have questions regarding; ASUU, starting a student group, or even funding, I would be more than happy to meet and answer such questions.

HC: To who or what have you attributed your success throughout your years at the University of Utah?

EB: I attribute my success to my parent’s constant support, encouragement, and for always believing in me. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing the last four years, but I can always count on them to be there when times get hard.

HC: How do balance social life with school? Has it been hard?

EB: Balancing social life with school has been very challenging because I always want to participate in everything my friends are doing. Yet, I’ve had to learn the hard way that no social event is worth your grades suffering, have to remember that there will always be another party going on next weekend. Sometimes you will have to disappoint your friends but you ultimately have to do what’s best for you.

HC: Favorite place you have traveled so far?

EB: I love San Francisco! I have only been there a couple times, but every time I fall even more in love with it. Hopefully someday I’ll end up working in a city similar to it.

HC: Any advice you would give to someone in college?

EB: I would say enjoy every second of it because these four years will come and go in a blink of an eye. I would also encourage you to try new things you normally wouldn’t, and to get involved in whatever you are passionate about because that’s what will truly make for a more memorable college experience.

Keep up the good work Esther and good luck on your future endeavors! As always, Go Utes!
