5 Ways To Raise Your GPA This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Great grades don’t come easily to everyone, but as the new school year begins it is time to buckle down and get your grades up. Bring that 2.0 to a 4.0 with these 5 simple steps!

1. Show up for class

It may seem silly and obvious, but you’d be surprised at how many people attempt to fly through a class under the radar. Getting the class notes from a friend isn’t nearly as sufficient as taking them yourself or listening to your professor in person. Try to make it to every class and you’ll be sure not to miss a beat. When you’re struggling, a teacher is far more likely to sit with you and help if you’re constantly present in their class.

2. Plan out your schedule and stay organized

Living a spontaneous life is not a bad thing, but you need to find time to buckle down. Not allotting certain time for activities such as homework, studying, and even sleep, will mess you up in the long run. Set aside time each day for these activities and don’t stray far from the plan. Make sure to set aside some free time as well!

3. Spend time getting ready for class

When you look good you will feel good. Not only will you look nice, but also spending time in the morning to fix yourself for class will make you feel more awake. When you roll out of bed and throw on a pair of sweats, you’re not going to pay as much attention. Get dressed up, even if it’s not your thing.

4. Take notes by hand and color-code them

Students these days are falling to printing copies of the class power points or typing up their notes electronically, but hand writing your notes both forces you to pay attention and aids memorization. The color-coding is an extra bonus, as it helps you easily locate specific notes while you’re studying.

5. Avoid over-studying

I would be lying if I said I’ve never pulled an all-nighter or two, but multiple hours of studying in a row is unhealthy. Instead, try gradually studying throughout the semester to avoid rushing to learn the information. Try something new, such as a ten minute break for every 30 you study, turning your phone off to decrease distractions, or taking a QUICK power nap (and by quick I mean 20 minutes).
