Wellness Wednesday: A Glass of Wine a Day May Keep the Doctor Away

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

After being told from what I would like to call an uncredited doctor that my cholesterol levels were increasingly high, I did some research on how to naturally lower cholesterol levels. To my surprise I learned that while exercising daily helps lower cholesterol levels, as does wine. As a young wine connoisseur, this news abruptly brought a smile to my face.

Now I am not saying to go run a couple of miles and rehydrate with wine or that simply sitting on the couch drinking wine will benefit your health. What I am saying is it is okay to have that glass or two of wine after a long day or paired with dinner if you exercised that day.

It has been proven by different studies that drinking wine (women allowed up to two glasses and men allowed up to three) helps increase the levels of HDL, the good cholesterol. Studies have also shown that pairing wine with exercise is protective against heart disease and it did not matter if participants were drinking red or white wine.

Lace up your Nikes and cheers to you!
