7 Things We Wish We Knew Before Freshman Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Before starting college we wish we knew these 7 things that would help us as freshman.

1. How to use “Rate My Professor”

Before registering for any class, use this site to help you determine between a “good” and “bad” professor. This site will become your new best friend.

2. Buy all your books used!

Nine times out of ten you will not use those books ever again after your class is over. Plus you’ll save money. Who doesn’t want to keep some extra cheddar?

3. Your roommate may not be your best friend.

Sometimes you end up with a good roommate and sometimes you don’t, but which ever roommate you get, make the best of it.

4. Manage your time.

Time can get past you when you’re busy with classes and your social life. Keeping track of your time will help you juggle between the two.

5. Go to the gym.

You have access to a free gym, so why not? The Freshman Fifteen does exist and you want to stay healthy for all of your years of college.

6.  Get Involved!

Make the best of your years on campus and get involved. You will have the opportunity to connect with many people and make new friends!

7. College goes by fast!

During Raven's free time from class she likes to shop, catch up on missed shows and more SHOPPING. Raven is sometimes shy but love meeting new people - ironic!
Erin is a Communication student at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the President and Editor-in-Chief of UIC's Her Campus chapter. On a daily basis, she can be found making excessive film references and getting overly emotional about superhero TV shows. She has a deep passion for writing, movies, music, good books, and great food, and will gladly talk your ear off about all of the above if prompted to do so.
