Sean Malone’s huge ambitions will change the way the Student Government Association interacts with the students at UGA. He launched the YOUnited Campaign on campus to express his ideas in hopes of a successful outcome in the upcoming election for SGA’s next president.
Now who exactly is Sean Malone? For starters, he’s a third-year Marketing and Finance major from Suwanee, Georgia. Sean loves to connect with the people around him, which is exactly why he makes a great candidate to be the face and voice of the students in relaying ideas and messages to administration both on and off campus.
Sean’s current involvement should reassure any and all students that not only is he used to having a lot on his plate, but can succeed at anything. Sean serves as Social Media Chair on the Student Alumni Council. As an ambassador to the Student Alumni Association, he has helped with several programs and has worked closely with SGA for Freshman Welcome. He is also involved with the American Marketing Association as a Senior Associate and Project Manager. Sean currently resides as Chaplain for his fraternity Alpha Tau Omega. A few other positions he holds include Development Intern for UGA, committee member for UGA Relay, and member of the Business and Design Team for the Georgia Political Review.
“I pledge to never put SGA President on my resume. This office is a service and a privilege to the University I love,” Sean says.
Even with all of Sean’s accomplishments while at UGA, he hopes to make his biggest contribution leading SGA.
“I’ve spent most of my time at UGA getting involved all around campus and finding ways to give back a little to the school that’s given me so much. SGA seems like the perfect vehicle to create a meaningful impact across campus,” Sean says.
The goal of Sean’s YOUnited Campaign is to bring together students all across campus and use their new perspective to bring about serious change within the Student Government Association. He shares the three themes of the campaign: YOUniting as People, as a Campus, and as a Community and State. Under YOUniting as People, Sean wants to build personal relationships with the students and be truly approachable through “Exec Hours.” Through YOUniting as a Campus, SGA would help out other student organizations through a scholarship fund each month. Lastly, under Youniting as a Community and State, Sean would not only like to promote service throughout Athens, but help individual students through the “Dawg-tern Network.” Go to their website for more information on Sean’s YOUnited Campaign and look out for our upcoming article featuring it in more detail.
The election for the SGA’s president will be held April 9-12, starting with the Executive Debate at 7 p.m. Monday. The debate will air live on WUGA channel 15 and on SGA’s website.
Like many of us struggling to figure out where we will end up after graduation, Sean also remains unsure of exactly what his future has in store for him. He says he wants to be a successful entrepreneur and “hope[s] to have a business that provides a meaningful service to consumers and, that I have a program and that gives a little back to a worthy cause.” Sean’s other aspirations in life are to get married and be a dad, have a Sky Suite at Sanford Stadium, and visit every continent. “You may also want to look out for me in the 2028 United States Presidential Election; it’s a maybe for me right now,” he adds.
Sean leaves us with a final message as the election approaches:
“We are YOUnited. Welcome to the party.”
