Try These Today: No Heat Hairstyles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

I don’t know about you girls, but the way I decide each morning’s hairstyle is by checking the weather. Yes, of course, I am concerned with looking cute. But durability in humidity trumps appearance, because – face it – I don’t really have a choice. No matter how great my hair looks in the mirror in the morning, the second I step outside, it’s a disaster.

If the humidity doesn’t make my hair frizz and fall, it’s the heat. And let me tell you, when I’m doing my hair, the last way I want to style it is by using a heat method. Curling irons? No, thank you, it’s hot enough already. Luckily, there’s a compromise: no-heat hairstyles. They’re easy, they’re low-maintenance (most of them dry overnight) and they won’t damage your hair like a straightener will. Look below for some adorable methods that look and feel great.

For Waves…
Check out the tutorial here: http://www.cute-easy-hairstyles.com/2009/04/12/easy-wavy-hairstyles-with-no-heat/.
Start with damp hair. Apply a bit of mousse if your hair tends not to hold styles. Divide your hair into four sections – make your usual part and then one horizontally across the back of your head.
Now, take one top section and twist it, making a tight bun. Secure with hair tie. Take the section on the bottom and twist it around the bun. Repeat until all hair is tied up.
Let hair dry, and take out the hair ties. Use hairspray and finger-comb to style. (If this doesn’t turn out as planned, simply pull on a headband.)

For Curls…

Get a stretchy headband and put it on top of damp hair so that it goes horizontally across your forehead. Starting at the front, tuck strands of hair around and under the band. Go all the way to the back and at the end, all of your hair should be up.
Your hair should look like mine in this article’s picture. (Tip: the put-up hairstyle is actually cute in itself. Wear it around – it’s like a vintage messy bun!)
Once your hair dries completely, pull out the headband and finger-comb.

For an Awesome Bun…

Obtain a man’s sock in a color similar to your hair color. Cut off the toe region. Put your hair into a high ponytail. Next, roll the sock so that it looks like a donut. Pull your hair through the donut.
Starting at the top, wrap the ends of your hair over the sock donut and tuck them under. Just keep pushing them under. Flip the donut with the hair attached and roll it closer to your head. Use your fingers to tighten the donut and pull hair so that it covers the sock. Adjust the bun so it’s in the place you want it. Perfect! (Bonus: when you take it out, you’ll have curls!)

The only thing left to do is hope your hair can hold up in the humidity. You look great, Colliegettes!
