As the school year is coming to an end, so are our favourite television shows. The shows that got us through boring study periods, sleepless nights, and made our college lives a little more interesting. Here is HerCampus U of T’s review of the 2011-2012 lineup, the perfect guide to the shows that we loved this year.
Touch
While Touch isn’t officially finished it’s made the list due to its amazing cast, unique plot, and amazing critical reviews. The plot weaves multiple people into one big tale; each character is strangely connected to another and only a young boy can see those connections. It’s a story about a father learning to understand his child while trying to prevent horrible events from happening. Might I add that Kiefer Sutherland plays an amazing father! But enjoy Touch while you can since there are only 3 hour long episodes.
Smash
Katherine McPhee and Debra Messing are the highlights of this show. Smash is filled with drama, romance, and of course, music. The musical-inspired show tells the tale of how making it big on Broadway is not all fun and games. It’s a different take on a music-based show. The hype behind it has proven to be true and it’s helped to secure a second season for next fall.
Ringer
Buffy fans rejoiced when Sarah Michelle Gellar’s new show, Ringer, was announced. Ringer is the story of Bridget Kelly, a woman posing as her twin sister, Siobhan Martin, after witnessing a murder. When Siobhan mysteriously decides to fake her own death, Bridget is left behind to live her life and quickly learns that her sister’s supposedly perfect life turns is anything but. There are so many twists and turns in the series that one can never truly grasp what’s going to happen next. Make sure you leave a lot of time for this show, with all the drama and mysteries, you’ll be wanting to watch episode after episode.
Once Upon A Time
Everybody loves a good fairytale, so why not put all the tales into one tv show? That’s exactly what Once Upon A Time does. Just add some modern day characters and voila, the perfect fairytale for everyone to enjoy! The characters are likable, the story is complicated, and the costumes are fantastical. Ratings and views were so good it’s been renewed for a second season!
Sherlock
Every person who watched the first season was left craving more episodes, more insight into the wondrous mind of Holmes, and of course, high expectations for the next season. And of course, Season 2 delivered. It was everything one could want in a show about a modern day Sherlock and Watson. With its all-star cast, including Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, this show does not disappoint. It’s fast paced, funny, and full of suspense. But the huge selling point is the not-so-subtle bromance between Holmes and Watson. And Sherlock fans are in luck, the third and final season is coming (most likely) in 2013.
