With Spring Break slowly lurking around the corner, the time has come to whip your body into fit and fabulous shape for bikini season. For some of us, it’s a yearly ritual or even a New Year’s resolution; but shedding those stubborn pounds brought on by holiday splurges is no simple task. Traditional fitness regimens make exercising feel like a chore and celebrity diet plans can be far from realistic. Take advantage of twenty-twelve and make a change that is sure to show results. Eliminate monotony from your workout and give your motivation a boost with an exhilarating and musical routine that I guarantee will have you hooked.
If the thought of an elliptical makes your cringe and you won’t even glance at a treadmill, finding a way to get your cardio for the day can be quite the struggle. Luckily, I’ve found the answer to your workout woes with my new fitness obsession: Zumba! After one class, you’ll be addicted and your days of lackluster exercise will be gone forever.
For those of you who are new to the Zumba craze, it is a form of exercise that is unlike any workout you have ever experienced. Zumba is an invigorating, Latin-inspired dance program that the creators have appropriately dubbed a “fitness-party.” Easy-to-follow choreography is mixed with a playlist of international beats and today’s top hits to create a truly effective routine. Zumba targets every inch of your body; sculpting muscles and burning calories without the strain of weights and machines! The up-beat rhythms will escalate your energy levels and make the time fly. Completing an hour of cardio has never been so entertaining!
One of the best aspects of Zumba, and the reason I keep coming back for more, is that the atmosphere is perfect for anyone who is afraid to venture into new territory. Professional dancing skills are definitely not a prerequisite and even with a lack of coordination, Zumba is a fabulous workout. With the lights turned down and a disco ball spinning overhead, no one is paying attention to whether or not you’re “So You Think You Can Dance” material. As long as you let loose, have fun and sweat a little too, Zumba can be the best way to get in shape for spring.
If you’re feeling encouraged to give Zumba a try, there are multiple classes held every week at the Carpenter Sports Building. Check the schedule here:
