“Ask me about my feet,” was yesterday’s tagline to the “One Day Without Shoes” event sponsored by TOMS. So, if you were curious as to why some of your fellow classmates were trekking around campus barefoot yesterday on April 10th, look no further, because you have found your answer.
TOMS Shoes established “One Day Without Shoes” a few years ago to encourage their customers to—just as it sounds—walk a day without shoes. By urging people to go without shoes themselves, TOMS hopes to raise awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life.
Each time someone purchases a pair of TOMS shoes, TOMS generously gives another pair to a child in need. They named their promise “One for One.” As a big buyer of the shoes I felt compelled to participate in the event. I cannot tell you how difficult it was to walk an entire day without anything on my feet.
When I climbed into bed last night I had a newfound appreciation for my shoes, something that I know to never take for granted again. Although it may have been an uncomfortable day, it will be an event that I participate in each year because of the awareness it brings the public and the thankfulness it brings me.
