Orgs on campus: Colleges Against Cancer
First off, I would like to thank this lovely woman for taking time out of her royally busy agenda to sit and chat with me for this interview! Over tea, (it’s only right) we discussed her life after winning the 2014 Miss Quintessential scholarship pageant hosted by the Eta Theta chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.!
Her Campus Texas: What have you done around campus since winning?
Morgan Bradley: Since winning, I have been involved in many campus events and activities. Last spring as co-chair of Colleges Against Cancer, I helped put on UT’s Relay for Life Event to raise awareness about cancer and over $20,000 in fundraising towards the American Cancer Society. I also have the opportunity as Miss Quintessential to put on event this Fall called, “Breast Cancer Knock Owt” to raise money for the Susan G. Komen foundation.
HCTX: How has this experience impacted your life?
MB: That experience was life changing for me! The time, effort, and preparation for the pageant was extremely gruesome yet very worthwhile. I learned a lot about myself, gained a greater since of self-worth and confidence, and I also gained some really great friends who were my pageant sisters.
HCTX: Have you thought about competing in more pageants in the future?
MB: I would love to get dolled-up and participate in another pageant! However due to my busy schedule as a graduating senior, I’m not quite sure I would have extra hours of time to dedicate to preparing for another pageant. Maybe in the future, I’ll have a chance to hit the stage again.
HCTX: What advice do you have for girls aspiring to be in a pageant?
MB: My biggest piece of advice to give is to “have no fears”. Pageants bring out a vulnerable side and you must be willing to give your all and share inner parts of yourself, your personality, and your story. When you have no fears, the experience is that much more fulfilling.
