Name:  Max TorrezMajor:  BFA ActingYear:  FreshmanHometown: League City, TX (near Houston)

Funny, talented, and super sweet, Max Torrez is definitely the kind of guy you’d want to spend some time with.  It’s only his first year in Austin, but he’s already making a name for himself in the UT theatre department.  Here’s what “single man Max Torrez” had to say about himself:

Her Campus Texas:  When did you first start doing theatre?

Max Torrez:  I first started theatre my junior year of high school.  I was actually playing football at the time, but my director told me to audition because they were short on guys.  So I went and auditioned and I actually ended up getting one of the principal roles.  After my solo [during a performance], everyone busted out laughing and that’s when I realized that that’s what I wanted to do.

HCTX:  What’s your favorite part about being in Austin and going to school at UT?

MT:  I would have to say the new friends that I have.  They’re pretty awesome…that’s the only word I can use to describe them!

HCTX: So you’d say you’re a pretty social guy?

MT: Oh, I love being social.  I have to be social.  I’ll go to parties from time to time or hang out with my friends.

HCTX:  What’s the first thing you notice about a girl?

MT:  The first thing I notice about a girl is her eyes because, when I talk to people, I always have to make eye contact.  So usually when people ask me what I look for in a girl, I say eyes because that’s really the first thing I look at.

HCTX:  Where would you take a girl for a dream date in Austin?

MT:  I would probably take her to get some Indian food, because it tastes fantastic.  And then one of the things I’ve always wanted to do is go watch fireworks over Lake Austin.  So whenever there’s something like that, someone should let me know so I can find a date!

HCTX:  What kind of music are you listening to right now?

MT:  Anything with Aaron Tveit, like his live album and the Catch Me If You Can soundtrack.  I also listen to a lot of Casting Crowns.

HCTX:  If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

MT:  I would have to say teleportation.

HCTX:  Why?

MT:  Well, being a single man, I have to attempt to pick up women.  So then I would just be like, “Hey, can I have a hug?” and then I’d hug them and say, “Hold on…where do you want to go?”  And then I’d teleport to someplace and be like, “There you go!”

HCTX:  So what can we look forward to seeing you in?  Any upcoming projects you’d like to tell us about?

MT:  I’ve been cast as “Sonny” in In The Heights, UT’s spring musical.  It’s running April 9-19 and I’m very, very excited.  It’s been a wonderful process and a great experience to share with the people in the cast, so I’m really excited to see the final product.

HCTX: What are your spring break plans?

MT: I’m going to work on my theater projects, cross-fit train, and most importantly, sleep!
