7 Things that Really Grind My Gears (and probably yours too)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

1.    The fact that the plague has taken over- Everyone is sick. At least 70% of the people in all of your classes spend the entire time coughing. It’s inevitable at this point. I’m counting the days that I still have left before it hits me.

2. When people make me feel like my major doesn’t matter- Some people are good at math, some are good at science, some at writing, and some at art. No matter what your path was, it matters. And it’s important because you chose it. Everyone is good at something, and every career choice matters. So if you’re bashing on someone because their course load isn’t “difficult,” you need to rethink those actions.

3.    People that breathe too loud in class- This grinds my gears the most, and it definitely ties into the plague. I just don’t understand why you need to show up to class if you’re going to be this loud.

4.   When you spend $2 on laundry, and your clothes are still not dry- If you live in a residence hall, this might hit a little bit too close to home. Not only did I just wait an hour for this cycle to be complete, I also spent two whole dollars. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but oh trust me it is. After the wait, I’m excited to feel the warmth of my clothes come out of the machine, then the disappointment hits when they’re all still damp.

5.   Study guides that don’t match the test at all- Not only did the professor post a specific study guide for the exam, the class then spent an entire lecture discussing the review. I got together with some classmates and studied, only to walk into the exam and have nothing match what we talked about in class… AT ALL.

6. When people crowd me while walking to class- I don’t understand why people need to get super close when walking on the sidewalk. There’s enough space for us. There is no need for this. It’s so unnecessary.

7. Being homesick- Let’s face it, we’ve been in college for about two months, and that is a long time to go without seeing your family, your pets, and your friends. It’s tough, and it’s kind of irritating if you can’t go home until major holidays. But I know I’m definitely counting down the days till Thanksgiving!
