3 Things to Watch and Eat on Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

My mother taught me to decorate in threes. Two candles in the Thanksgiving centerpiece, but also a vase of fall flowers. Three is a very important number for the holidays. Three standard pies on the dessert table; pumpkin, apple, pecan.Three french hens and three wise men, and the Grinches’ heart, when it grows three times as big. This Thanksgiving, I encourage you to not only decorate, but celebrate in threes. Three Thanksgiving episodes you need to watch and three recipes you need to make. A small guide to a collegiate Thanksgiving but a big reminder that this year, we have maybe one or two, or perhaps even three, things to be thankful for.

3 Shows to Watch

Friends, “The One With The Football”

An absolute classic. There’s nothing like ditching your actual family to sneak in an episode of your favorite Friends family. The touch-turned-tackle football game behind the setting of an orange and yellow New York City park is enough to give anybody Thankgiving envy.

Modern Family, “Pumpkin Chunkin’”

I do not recommend watching this after your Thanksgiving meal. The battle between the “realist and the dreamers” is a fight that is too funny to watch after you’ve stuffed yourself with stuffing. Give it a bit of time, then gather around with your family to watch the Pritchett family fall apart.

Gilmore Girls, “A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving”

This is the episode where Rory and Lorelai visit three (there’s that number again!) Friendsgivings, all taking on different tastes. Tofurky at Kim’s, a fried-turned-fire Turkey at Sooki’s, and a quaint meal at Luke’s. The night ends with a predictable meltdown at Emily’s, but at least this time, it’s all in the family.

3 Things to Make (All found on Her Campus Texas’ Pinterest)

Candied Pecan Sweet Potato Casserole

The recipe for this unpredictable and delicious side dish/dessert can be found here. It’s fairly simple for such a complicated name, and beats the boring green bean casseroles of Thanksgivings past.

Thanksgiving Fortune Cookies

A la Gilmore Girls Thanksgiving, give your Turkey day an Asian touch with these cute and easy Thanksgiving-themed fortune cookies. Just as the pilgrims showed us years ago, Thanksgiving can be a day where cultures can be pleasantly (and deliciously) mixed.

Turkey Cupcakes

Okay, these things are just too cute. All you need it cupcake mix, M&M’s, and chocolate icing and you’ll be the star of the Thanksgiving dinner. Not to mention, they look delicious, and it’ll be hard to wait for the actual turkey before you gobble these things up.

I am Corisa but a lot of my friends call me Cori! I feel like the real life Hannah Horvath from Girls.
