Politicians have been bickering lately over the controversial issue of women’s rights, more specifically: abortion. Our very own constitution specifically requires a separation of church and state. When politicians bring a religious issue into play, such as abortion, they are mixing religion and politics, which is unconstitutional.

As the Republican Primaries have been plastered on many television stations, more and more candidates are bringing in the issue of women’s rights, including the right to birth control. Many want to cut funding for women’s health, such as birth control. Birth control can be used for medical issues, and it does not only used as a form of contraception. Many politicians are calling the use of birth control a “sin.” Women are allowed to have a choice, regarding when they want to procreate.

If a woman already has several children and doesn’t want anymore, she should be able to use birth control as a form of contraception. There are many benefits to using birth control, which some people seem to be ignorant about. Many politicians are bringing in to play the issue of abortions, also.

Having an abortion is a personal choice, and women are allowed to have a say in whether or not they want a child. If a woman was sexually assaulted, why should she be forced to have a child, even if she is only a young teenager? No one should be forced into a situation like that.

However, a woman should not abuse her right to an abortion.  If she chooses to have multiple abortions, it can affect her body when she actually plans on having a child. Just because she can get an abortion, doesn’t mean she should abuse her power.

Women’s health is not just an issue; men’s reproductive health is coming into play with politicians. Female Democrats have proposed bills that would limit a man’s access to reproductive health care. These bills are just as extreme. They vary from banning vasectomies to requiring a partner’s consensus to receive erectile dysfunction medicine. As a woman, I don’t believe this is fair for men to undergo, either. Politicians should not be addressing men’s health, nor should they be addressing women’s health as their key arguments, for there are much bigger issues that they should deal with, such as education.

Politicians should not have a say in what a woman should do with her body. It is her body. There are more important issues these candidates should be focusing on.
