Hi Collegiettes™!
I have one motto for the summer: To Come. To See. To Conquer. I have been dreaming of this summer for years, waiting desperately until the day that a national magazine offers me the position to work for them. I knew there were many challenges to overcome; after all, the entire
country applies for internships in New York City for the summer, so I knew the competition would be fierce. However, an editor saw something in little ol’ me, and offered me an internship position in the fashion closet!
I’ve been interning in the fashion closet for a week now and love the hustle of the industry. There is never a dull moment in this closet I tell you. I know we all grew up watching The Hills, where Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port sat in the fashion closet at Teen Vogue chatting about their weekend rendezvous, but let me tell you-that’s not at all reality. First off, we don’t sit at all. We are constantly moving in the closet. Second, we don’t chat about our weekends much. The environment is very professional and we keep small talk to minimum. However, it’s loads of fun for those who are looking for a chance to step into the industry and willing to work hard and possibly break a sweat.
Okay, enough about my internship for a little bit. You’re probably wondering who is this girl? My name is Andrea and I’m a junior at Temple University and I’m double majoring in Magazine Journalism and Public Relations. I’m originally from Columbus, Ohio and have dreamed of working in New York City since my sophomore year in high school. Funny fact: In middle school, I wanted to major in nursing and become a Neonatologist. I later found out that I was the worst at science and would never be able to pass college courses (sad story, I know). However, I was always naturally gifted in writing and I loved magazines. So I took a chance and decided to major in Magazine Journalism.
This is my seventh internship and I’m so excited about it. I can’t believe I’m actually here, in Manhattan, to live for the summer. Yesterday I was walking around like the average New Yorker and started smiling to myself because I’ve finally made it! I have so many goals for the summer and I can’t wait to share my journey with you all.
Hopefully my hard work and determination will inspire you to make it to the big apple one day soon!
Blog to you soon,
Andrea
