I’ve always been a fan of Victoria’s Secret. My love for the company started at age ten, when I obsessed over their yummy flavored, hot pink lip glosses. My younger-self purchased a new lip gloss every time I went to the mall, getting my makeup stockpile off to a good start at a young age. Many bras, swimsuits, pajama sets, and lip gloss tubes later, my eighteen-year-old self is still a huge VS fan. So, you can only imagine my excitement when I found out I would get the opportunity to interview Victoria’s Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel about Bombshells’ Day. I was happier than my ten-year-old self was when I found out that a new lip gloss color had arrived in stores.
Bombshells’ Day, the brand’s first-ever holiday, is certainly a day of celebration for Victoria’s Secret lovers! The holiday, to take place on the first Saturday of every May, kicked off today, May 2nd. The holiday encourages women to indulge and enjoy themselves, with deals and discounts all day at Victoria’s Secret Stores and on VictoriasSecret.com. Angel Card holders will also receive special rewards on Bombshells’ Day.
On Thursday, April 30th, Candice visited the Victoria’s Secret at NorthPark Center in Dallas, Texas to preview the Bombshells’ Day campaign! Candice showcased the new Bombshell Bra and Bombshell Fragrance. The Bombshell Bra instantly adds two cup sizes, thanks to the deep plunge center front and criss-cross detail. The fruity-floral Bombshell Fragrance features notes of vanilla orchid, Shangri-la peony, and purple passion fruit.
I chatted with Candice about Bombshells’ Day, her beauty habits, and her advice for young girls in college. I was feeling nervous and star struck just being in her presence, but once we got to chatting, Candice’s sweet, South African accent and down-to-earth personality made me feel like I was talking to a great friend. Q: Have you been wearing the Bombshell Fragrance a lot or do you like to mix things up?
A: “It depends on my mood, I mix a lot of my fragrances. I have a bunch of them at home so it really depends on my mood, but this [the Bombshell Fragrance] has been one of the best sellers for a very long time. I never mix perfumes and I’m also very careful with what creams I use because sometimes they clash. But, the Bombshell Fragrance for the average woman is a really good everyday perfume.”
Q: What would you say is the best occasion to wear the Bombshell Bra?
A: Laughing, “It really is a bra that needs to be seen! It’s a shame to put clothes on it! A nice date night out, something where you want to be a little bit spicier. It’s definitely not one you’re going to put on to go and be casual.”
Q: If you could only have three beauty items in your purse, what would you pack?
A: “A really good eyeliner, a lip and cheek tint is good, and concealer- always need that!”
Q: With all of your traveling for Victoria’s Secret, do you have a favorite destination you’ve visited?
A: “We went to Necker Island once, it’s in the British Virgin Islands. It is Richard Branson’s private island. Puerto Rico was also amazing, we did a swim special there. Maybe it was amazing because we [the Supermodels] were all together.”
Q: Do you prefer modeling for swim, lingerie, or catalog items like pajamas and clothes?
A: Laughing, “Pajamas are my least favorite! I’m such a beach addict that swim is my element. I can be out there, get a tan, and be out in the elements. It’s so different- for lingerie we’re in the studio and it’s a different feeling. We’ve got major hair and makeup, so I can really transform into a character.”
Q: Do you get more nervous on-set for photoshoots or walking the runway? Or are there no nerves at all at this point in your career?
A: “Oh no, no, no. The runway, I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I get more nervous every year! The Fashion Show, because it’s live, because there’s a massive audience, because millions of people see it… it is just crazy.”
Q: What piece of advice would you give to young girls? What do you wish you knew when you were 18?
A: “I wish I knew to just chill out a little bit! I wanted to grow up so fast. Enjoy being 18. Enjoy playing around with your style and hair and makeup. I used to always try and do what everyone else was doing, so I think it’s nice to find your uniqueness and go with that. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. I put a lot of pressure on myself as a young girl, I wish I’d just chilled out a little bit.”
